Anybody regret not buying a 4X4?

4X4 is like a condom... better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it...

 

You don't get snow

 

no. because i have it. before i got my truck we found some really good priced pre runners. BUT we HAD to have 4wd. so we could not get them. the little bit of snow we get makes up stranded in the drive way pretty much with just 1 4wd in a house hole of 3 and one that dose not live with me, mom and dad. and if and when we go see family in western NY we have to have it and say something “bad” happened in the winter. we may need to get 5 people about 650 miles. and with 2, 4wd it make it easier.

We do in northern AZ but growin up in the desert portion I have no desire to go to the snow

 

I do from time to time just because I'd like to have it if I needed it. My 01 Taco was a 4x4 and I rarely used it. I think I had my fill of off roading with my 92 Toyota. I gave that thing hell in my early 20's. I always wanted to have a LT Taco but it's kinda pointless seeing how I live in Alabama. I think that would be a waste to spend that kind of money on an LT but it's the only reason I didn't get a 4x4 this time around. Haha!

 

No regrets, Plenty of snow here although I grew up driving RWD only and just don't have the need for 4WD. Throw 300lbs in the back and put good tires on, You will get there.....

Not a chance you will convince anyone with a 4WD that you can move an inch in the snow with 2WD........funny .......Millions do it every Winter though....

 

I agree although it's really fun to watch peoples faces when you're blasting thru 8" of fresh snow with a little 2WD Tacoma equipped w/ a manual transmission, Blizzaks & 300lbs in the back.

First winter I drove my taco I only used 4wd when absolutely necessary to see the capabilities of the LSD with no 4wd. It was necessary enough times to justify paying the extra cash. The reason I bought a taco in the first place was because it was the only good looking mid size pick up worth buying that had 4wd. But I live in the North West. If I lived in cali I would be driving an 88-92 E30 M3.

 

The question really comes down to , if you could afford either , which would you get ?

I would always get 4x4 because I live in an area that gets snow , which means I don't have to chain up , or throw a bunch of crap in the back of my truck to get around , I just flip a switch .

In my area, we get snow. Lets just say on any typical car lot in the northeast, 95% of all trucks are 4x4. They sell so few of 2wd trucks....Its alsmost not an option to buy.

 

Same here , I don't think you can get a 2wd TRD model in Canada .

 

Makes perfect sense too. Also the reason sti's and evo's are so popular and expensive in Washington. Fun in the sun and even more fun in the snow.

I was just in Upstate New York and Ontario. I saw ONE PreRunner. It had North Carolina plates.

Seriously, we could narrow this down big time by wording it as 'Who won't admit that they regret not getting the 4x4 instead of the 2 wheel drive?'

There are a few of them, (who won't admit it) but not many.

 

Funny, I lived in NJ for 29 years, owned multiple trucks, and never once felt like I needed 4X4. Oh how did I ever get around!
