Ok first off I wanna say I know I'm kinda comparing apples (no pun intended) to oranges here. I've been looking to get a tablet for my girlfriend and I've narrowed it down to the Coby Kryos MID7024 and the Apple iPad (16gb &wifi). I chose these two becasue the Kryos runs Adroid 2.2 and my gf has the HTC Thunderbolt so she'd be pretty comfortable with the system. Then there's the iPad that most everyone loves so much and is basically the "it" tablet. I should also mention the Coby is about half the price of the iPad. I'm not the most techno-savvy person, so I'm hoping someone can show me the right direction!

Oh and whichever I purchase will be used for school work not just entertainment!

I have never purchased an Apple produc before my iPad and I am very impressed! Posting from it now in fact! Price tag is high but impressive...changes the way you use the web! Also great if you can't check personal email at work and are tired of replying via smartphone.

I have an iTouch and love it for the most part. Runs smooth and screen quality is amazing. Only thing I dislike is the lack of Flash and all that good stuff. My LG Ally runs Android 2.2 and its awesome. Fast and great app market. Image quality isnt the best but I blame the phone on that.

Would agree that the Android platform is pretty sick! Google did an excellent job designing. You really can't go wrong, I would look at it from a numbers standpoint...whatever makes the most sense. The annoying thing with Apple is that the iPad 5 will probably be out within 6-12 months of buying the iPad 4 :p

Not an Apple lover, actually far from it! But The Kryos Tablet is another one of those tablets that a company throws out there to get into the "tablet" category. I love Android for all it's worth, but between the 2.... I can't believe I'm saying this but, get an Ipad.
But there are also great android tablets out there that are in the same price range, if not cheaper, than the ipad.

I vote android. but not kryos. I have a Xoom and love it. My issue with the ipad is the lack of flash. I can live without it on a phone, but not having flash on a tablet just doesnt work for me. I there are a lot of nice android tablets coming out soon. I will probably be ugrading to the new samsung galaxy tab 10.1 when it is released.

If she uses android and likes it then you can save a lot of money and get the Kryos.

But, if she has the opportunity to try the iPad 2 she will definetely want one. I have tried both and the iPad is like a Mercedes, the Kryos is like a Cadillac. Cadillac's are really nice until you drive a Mercedes.

Why get her a tablet when her phone already does the exact same thing? It's just one more thing to lug around...

Sorry, I just never caught on to the whole tablet fad. Smart phones do pretty much the exact same thing and most people already have them, so why spend money on a bulky tablet to carry around.

Once you play angry birds(or any game) on an iPad it's hard to play it on a small screen.iPad is smaller than lugging a laptop around

My Friend has the tablet with Verizon 3G service. He has it hooked up wireless (bluetooth) in his truck.it shows all his gauges and everything going on the screen.all for a $10 app.

I've played Angry birds (and other games) on a Xoom and I would still prefer my phone.

I would rather carry a laptop or notebook around then a tablet, more practical and easier to type on.

Completely agree, I admit they're cool and all, but I'd rather not spend that much on something that I can get a good laptop for the same price.

Why won't you try out both? Personally I prefer the iPad for smoothness when scrolling and better response when taping icon apps. iPad 2 with dual core is pretty quick.

My buddy has a photography business and uses the iPad to show demo photos and such.

If my grandparents ever ask for a new computer, I'm getting them one of these tables so they can quit screwing things up.

because her computer is shot to shit. and she uses it in class for notes, research and such. and 1) it'd be hard to do that on a cell phone. 2) not all professors permit cell phones in class.

i've tried the iPad and ill admit its alot better. bigger, smoother, and faster. but i couldnt bring myself to pay the iPad price. the coby kyros i got does everything she and i want it to for a fraction of the price

I say buy neither, and spend your money on something else. Tables are a joke, and useless as far as i am concerned. A laptop and a smartphone are all you need. The smartphone for when you are on the quick go, and the laptop when traveling. I had an Ipad, and found it worthless, no flash, what the hell is that. No usb input lame.
Nope not for me, they are a novelty item.

Buy a macbook air if you want light and portable.

i bought the coby kyros about 3 weeks ago and its been great. supports flash, has an usb port, 4gb internal memory (expandable up to 32gb). its alot more convient than a laptop imo, but yes i agree its no smart phone.
