So I have had my 2011 Mag Gray DC TRD Sport for about 3 Months...I didn't notice it when I picked it up but after a week or so I noticed my grill wasn't exactly "color Matched" the grill surround and the bar through the middle were both the same duller gray color--hard to explain the difference from mag gray.

I hadn't been able to compare it yet to another 2011 up close until today when I went for my 5,000 mile service...while it was in being serviced I walked through the lot...and sure enough the other Sports grill surround was exact color match and the bar through the middle was that darker almost black color.

I mentioned it to the service guys and they basically didn't believe me and said that doesn't happen and the grill on the truck was supposed to come with the truck..."but we can have someone paint it if you want it matched" ....He said he had to run the VIN, I then explained I know what its supposed to have and wanted to point out the other trucks on the lot....but he didn't want to do the work...finally when my truck came outside we looked at it , and its very obvious compared to the other one on the lot...basically the factory put on the base model grill...which is almost the same color of mag gray but not quite and its more of a matte finish...they are going to call me back next week...i guess it has to be authorized by two levels of managers they said...

What rim line (package) is your truck? Base, SR5, TRD Off-Road, TDR Sport?

Ah, TRD Sport .... I missed that in OP ..... it has been a long day.

That's exactly what it sounds like. The surround on the grille of the Sport should exactly match the color of your truck. Do your mirrors and door handles match the truck as well? Those should match on the Sport also.

The real question is whether it's really a Sport that may have had a grille swapped due to some damage, or whether some Sport stickers just got slapped on another trim level.

Do you have pics of the day you bought it? The dealer may come back saying you probably swapped grilles at home. When in reality? They probably swapped it on the lot themselves because of shipping damage or something... then figured the customer would never know the difference.

Those stealerships will do that kind of shit. My buddy's parents went to buy a brand new Volvo 850 Turbo from the lot in '95, they found the perfect one, then when they were about to say yes they noticed it didnt have the Turbo badge. They told the salesman "Oh nevermind we're only looking for a Turbo model." The scumbag then said "Oh it's a turbo. They just didnt put a badge on it. Want a badge? I can find one in the shop somewhere..." It was at that point that my buddy's parents rolled their eyes and left. They eventually ordered one from another dealer and got exactly what they wanted. (they looked under the hood before they drove away ;)) Moral of the story; do your research, dont trust those disgusting dealership monsters, and be persistent. Good luck!

yes I have a TRD sport...everything else matches up perfect...grill is the only thing that was off...initially I thought it was just a bad job at a color match...until I saw the totally different grill on the other trd sport...I can see how the mistake could be made from the factory and was probably done to every other truck put together that day ....its very close to the same color as magnetic gray...they probably thought it was the magnetic gray grill...mirrors and handles would be harder to make that mistake with because the sr5 and base models handles and mirrors are a darker color than their grills

I'm inclined to think that perhaps it took a whack during shipping or delivery and some monkey in a dealership threw on the base grill in replacement. I think instead of the factory making the mistake it was a case of " Meh, they'll never know". Make 'em order you the correct one, you certainly paid for it.

Oh and, Go Sox, Bruins and Pats!

Ya I hope it was a factory mistake and not damage at the dealership...which is a def possibility...its a super small dealership with trucks jammed together...either way they are ordering a new one...thats why I didn;t wait too long to let them know...I didn't want them thinking I damaged it and swapped it out...they had a brand new 4runner on their lot with part of the bumper cover pushed under the corner of the headlight...

That would be a huge red flag to me to be honest. I think you can assume this was the work of the dealer trying to pass off their shitty careless attitude to the customer. I'm glad you got them to order you a new one. If they try to give you a bill crumple it up and throw it in their faces :D

Not the same color, mine is white, a 10 Sport. After a few months when washing the truck I noticed the color was different.

For whatever reason, the paint(?) they use on the grille surround holds dirt and stains.

I scrubbed and no luck, ironically the one thing that restored the color was Toyogard. Reading the label it is of course the recommended wax, but it states it also has cleaners.

My grille comes back to as delivered using the stuff. I have tried a couple another similar product and it did not bring the color back.

Not sure about your truck, maybe it is a defect, maybe it got swapped. Might try cleaning a small area and see if it helps. This may save you the hassle of them damaging something else.

The 2011 grille the center part is black and should not be painted. If it's painted your grille was replaced.

As someone mentioned earlier, you might want to confirm that you really have a TRD Sport and not a SR5/base with stickers. You have the scoop on the hood, stickers on the bed sides, and the 110v inverter with the outlet in the passenger bed storage bin, right?
