So yesterday I had something interesting happen. In Yonkers, I'm sitting stopped at an intersection where a construction worker was directing traffic. He has the opposing traffic flowing through and a guy on side street on my right decides he doesn't want to wait and pulls out to make a left. Nearly T-boning the guy in my oncoming traffic, he swerves and hits me. Ruined the front bumper, drivers side fender and headlight of our Camry. Then he jumps out and begs me not to call the cops because he doesn't have a license. Meantime he's standing there with hair that looked like Medusa and in pajama pants and wife beater. Needless to say I called the cops. Then, while they're writing the police report, his friend shows up (who owns the car he was driving) and proceeds to do pull-ups from the cross walk signal. The bitch of it is that I didn't take a company truck cause it's difficult trying to find a spot or a parking garage in NYC that'll take a full size truck with cap and ladder racks.

I talked to the owner about it today. They told me to pursue whatever option I want:

    1) Work it out with the other guys insurance company.
    2) Pay my deductible and let my insurance company fix the car and my insurance company (Liberty Mutual) would go after his insurance company for the repairs and the deductible.

My company didn't come out and say it but they eluded to that if I have trouble with the deductible, they'll pay it.

Any thoughts on which option to pursue? My thoughts are to go after his insurance company but I don't want to get brushed off cause it wasn't the car's owner driving the car.

I have no advice. I have never used insurance and I've been in close to 10 accidents. I've always payed for shit myself out of fear of the insurance company raising my rates.

I'm just glad you were driving jens car instead of your truck :D

    And you're okay I'm guessing??

mike trust me when i tell you this. if you where at a stop and got hit, and where on the proper side of the road, go through their insurance. dont even think about taking care of it on your own. file a claim with your insureance and they will do the fight for you. thats the way it works.

Yea, I've been in quite a few but only one was my fault. I ended up footing out $5,500 to fix the two cars so my rates wouldn't go up.

If it was my Tacoma I would probably beet the guy before the cops got there.

I'm fine thanks. It was at a pretty low speed so it was more shocking than anything.

I'm starting to think it's time to get a new car to replace the Camry. This is the second time it's been hit in six months. Both on the front drivers side. Neither of which time was mine or Jen's fault. Was looking at the Suzuki Kazashi last night at Meadowland's fair. Nice car and handles good.

So you would let my insurance company fight theres and risk the deductible? Or go directly to their insurance. My only concern is the owner has insurance but the owner was not the driver (nor in the car). Don't know if they can try and pull something like that. Anyone know the insurance rules?

HR from work told me to let them know if I end up having to foot the deductible and they'll talk to the owner about paying it.

Is anyone here running All Pro spacers? Found someone selling them for $100 for the four and kicking around the idea. Just concerned that they're not anodized like the Spidertrax and we live in road-salt kingdom. Any thoughts?

It's not even completely Jegs's fault though. When I ordered it they said they had none in stock so they would have DT drop ship one to me. Apparently DT has none in stock either, and somehow they have not made enough in the past month to be able to ship one to me. I guess maybe I'll try calling DT ?

I'd probably stick with spidertrax. I had my wheels off last night to rotate my tires and I inspected everything that I could see. The spacers are looking better than everything else

I had a feeling you were going to say that. I'll just order the Spidertrax. Rather be safe than sorry. Thanks.
