NY motorcyclist dies on ride protesting helmet law
    AP – 2 hrs 29 mins agoONONDAGA, N.Y. (AP) —

Police say a motorcyclist participating in a protest ride against helmet laws in upstate New York died after he flipped over the bike's handlebars and hit his head on the pavement.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon in the town of Onondaga, in central New York near Syracuse.

State troopers tell The Post-Standard of Syracuse that 55-year-old Philip A. Contos of Parish, N.Y., was driving a 1983 Harley Davidson with a group of bikers who were protesting helmet laws by not wearing helmets.

Troopers say Contos hit his brakes and the motorcycle fishtailed. The bike spun out of control, and Contos toppled over the handlebars. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

I'm sorry to hear that he died.. But when riding A bike, it's only common sense to ride with a helmet, law or not..

not that i have anything against motorcycles, but laws are made for our protection and to fix problems. If people want to go against them, then they should be prepared for the consequences.

Kind of ironic, but I don't see anything funny about someone dieing to be honest

I guess the fact that he was protesting against something that could of saved his life if he wore it..

the title "irony defined" is generally used to make fun of something, if you were just posting to inform us you would of left that part off the title

i saw that on the AP news. Ironic.... Yes. still terrible to hear about a fallen rider. Wear the helmet ! its like smoking cigs or having unprotected sex with a hot girl with the clap...... the feeling is probably great at the moment, but there can be consequences.

But seriously, sorry to hear this

sucks he died.... but... they make helmets for a reason. I don't feel show too much sympathy for people that choose not to wear their helmets when they ride.

sucks that he died but im not sure a helmet would have saved his life if he landed right on his head...might have been a chance though

Irony and humor are not related...

Too bad for the rider but I agree with Krimson, a helmet is a good idea regardless of local laws. All I think about is having a big ass beetle or something hard shelled clipping you right in the forehead... That would hurt like hell at 50 mph without a helmet, let alone an accident where it could save your life!

well at least he went out the way he wanted to

personally i dont agree with any helmet laws or seatbelt laws. not that i dont use both

i just really dont think after you paid for your own vehicle someone else should tell you how to drive it especially if its not going to hurt anyone but yourself
