I'd have to agree. If i put slicks on my Taco it doesn't make it a Funnycar.

17's up front and in back make a sumo a sumo. It's the stance of the machine. I'm sure the sumo racers vary their tire selection based on the track. By the other logic they'd be pigeon held to a specific tire race after race after race.

whatever.. as far as ive ever been told or read, if it has dual sport tires, its a dual sport, designed for dirt and road. super moto's have street/track specific tires

If I put a dual sport tire on my drz400sm i'm not going to call it a supermoto, i'm going to call it a dual sport.. something that can be ridden on dirt as well as road

yea no shit.. doesnt mean you can ride a sm tire in the same terrain as a dual sport tire. try taking an sm through mud then let me know how that worked out for you. and im talking about an sm with sm tires, not an sm with dual sport tires...

    Tires don't define the bike.

Sumo races are held on go-kart tracks which require a softer tire and they're also held on both dirt and street tracks (with transitions between the two) and those can be a good street tire (like the Q2) or a combo.

If you stuck a dual sport tire on your drz, you'd be running two rear tires. Like this:

The above poster kinda made my point, there is no "SM" tire, just sizes. This video is pretty bad but watch and you'll understand (maybe) a tard can go mudding fairly well, no, won't win any Hare n Hounds, but as capable as DS with street/trail tires.

first of all, your a want to be know it all dick. im sorry but im tired of you trying to show off in this thread.
ok you have a ktm, whoopdee freaking do. congrats on owning an overpriced motorcycle you gotta wrench on 6 days a week.
second off the main objective of this thread is for the op to find out a good dual purpose bike, not for you to parade around being king shit. if there wasnt a difference between a supermoto and a dual sport then why do they market two different bikes?

now how bout you get down from you mightly little soap box and help out the OP instead of using this thread to try and be better then everyone else.
oh and im still waiting on you to show me this...

i had a dr 350 that was bullet proof reliable and it was a nice comprimise between power and weight to make it some what fun off road and stable enough on road to be used all over. that bike required almost no up keep what so ever besides the basics.

Who's being a dick or a show off? You and JLink keep telling everybody you know what a Sumo is. But neither of you seem to be able to define what one is (except by tire type) but you're able to toss out claims of "overpriced" and "wrenching 6 days a week" for something you have no clue about.

As far as the "king shit" claim, well that I'm not. I never claimed to be either. But I do know the difference between a Dual Sport and a Supermoto.

If you aren't comfortable paying for something don't. But the price difference between your KX250 and the equivalent KTM is $200.

I've always wondered how a two wheel drive bike would feel, seems you would have to drive/ride it a little differently.

Yeah i always wondered the same thing, how much power you actually get to the front tire? I imagine would be really difficult to ride!

Especially off road, where you steer the bike with the throttle (if desired). Power slides would be very weird. I would think.

Tires are not the only difference between Sumos and DS bikes.

It's minor nuances that define each class- and then the differences between bikes in the same class....Like lightweight/midweight/heavyweight DS bikes. A heavyweight DS looks/acts alot like a Sumo...

Lets stop with the name calling and e-penis comparison and help the OP with useful info for him to buy his bike...
