Regeared now noise, like worn tire

Sooo, after I blew rear diff I had front and rear regeared to 4.56. Now I got a noise kinda like what a worn out mt tire or a whirring. When I get up over 50-55 it get notice able. Let off gas it's not as bad back on gas it's back. Under 50 it's not to bad. While coming to a stop the last lil bit u can hear it whir slower n slower. Drives fine no vibrations or anything. Gear guy says some gears just make a lil noise, drive it for a while if gets worse or doesn't go away we will take it from there...? Hmm what do I do? Could it be an axle bearing, I have an axle that we suspect has a slight bend. The tire has a small wobble noticeable only at slower speeds.

The noise reminds me of worn out mt's. That's the best way I can describe it. Any thoughts or suggestions....thanks.

 

I would guess its the gear setup, I know if its not done right it will whine and get louder as speed goes up. I've also had bearings go out that did the same. Looks the gear guy would have said something about bearing though. I would take it another gear shop and get their opinion too. I've had several gear sets put in different vehicles over the yrs, only one I had whine like that was put in by a buddy the "knew" what he was doing. Took it to gear shop to get it setup right and whine was gone. I've had gears from 3.55's to 5.13's put in differrent trucks with no whine @ the shop I use....if your in the Corpus Christi, Tx area, let me know I put you in touch with him.

 

Deffinitely sounds like the gear setup wasnt done right. Too much backlash or they ruined the bearings taking it apart or putting it together.

 

Too much backlash, you shouldn't have any whine or excess sound. The only time you should have a heavy gear sound is with a transmission carrying straight cut gears.

X2. The shop could have not set the proper amount of backlash into the gearing. Too much would basically make the mesh sloppy and too much would make the gears run tight. It might be too much if they're making noise. I would jack it up and turn the driveshaft by hand. I know the gearing is different but just watch for wheel movement. You should be able to get a feel for the backlash by watching when the wheels spin. If there is a big delay then there's probably too much backlash or slop. If it's tight and difficult to turn it's probably adjusted too tight.

 

ya someone on ttora gave me that link. I'm headed back to his shop this wed to pretty much tell him I'm not happy and worried about it. I want him to go for a ride with me and then tell him he needs to fix this noise right!
