We have a major ant problem.

Me and my girlfriend rent a house together. We have the ground level and another old guy has the basement. We've noticed ants all over the kitchen and in the bathroom.

We keep our area pretty clean (she's a neat freak) but they still seem to come. The guy in the basement isn't the same. The ones in the bathroom come from a crack in the floor it seems. The ones in the kitchen come from an outlet near the sink.

I've tried sprays outside, ant bait killer etc..with no affect. I've also told the landlord but he really doesn't care.

We also have a pet in the house so using anything too extreme probably isn't a good idea.

Any help on what I should try?

They seem to find all the nooks they can. Baseboards, etc..

The landlord doesn't want us "messing up" his house because "he did the work himself, and it's just fine".

I'm about ready to get the bottle torch and find all the ant hills outside

I've been doing that, and probably will continue it. It seems to work, I mean, they're attracted to it and they all go in there. It just seems like there's more and more each day I look.

Thought there might be a faster way to get rid of them is all.:D

There is a good possibility their nest is in one of the walls. You could try bug bombs. At night walk slowly around the outside of the house and look for a trail. Ants are more active at night. If you find a trail follow it back to their nest and poor boiling water down the hole. Try to keep all your food and water in airtight containers. And if the old man comes up, opens something and just leaves it, grab it and throw it down into the basement so the ants bother him :)

Thanks for the info! I'll go outside in a bit and look around.

They haven't got into the cupboards (yet) so we've taken the precautions just in case they do or have already.

I don't think I'm the type of guy to try and get the ants to bother him. I'd just rather get rid of them all together.
