Not trying to rub this in, but it seems like they got rid of the a/c on with the defrost in 2009.

Unfortunately, they didn't. It comes on on mine when I switch it over to defrost. Plus I noticed it on the window sticker when I was at the dealership.

I just attempted this mod, but gave up after about 30 minutes as I also could not get the wire to release. I didn't have any wire, so I tried using a sewing needle, and a thumb tack to release it... with no luck. I wonder if they changed the connector for '09? I'm curious to work if this works on the '09's though. I don't want to cut the green wire if it isn't going to work.

I wouldn't cut the wire....just in case you need warranty work later for something. Mine was very very difficult to come out as well, but it did come out, hell I broke a cheap jeweler screwdriver just pushing trying to get it to release..... after calling its mother a few names and a little break pacing in the garage, I tried again and it came out.

Good to know, I'll pick up something stronger than a sewing needle and try again tomorrow. Thanks.

This is something that you should not do. Besides the "drying of air" before coming into the vehicle, having the clutch engaging when the defroster is on is also for lubrication of the AC unit during the colder climate

Hey guys, Maybe the 05-09's are different, but on the 01-04's, you can pull off the dial and you'll see that the switch can be turned past the defrost stage. you can just cut the little fin and the dial will turn past defrost and when you do that you'll hear the ac compressor turn off. someone look into it!?!

I don't disagree with that, but the A/C only needs to be on for a few minutes each time the truck is run to dry the air enough, which should also be sufficient to keep the A/C unit lubricated . I figure that I'm capable of turning on the A/C when needed, then shutting it off when not needed so that MPG's aren't wasted. Heck, I probably turn on the A/C more in the winter for this very reason than I do in the summer when it's actually hot out.

The A/C does not come on when I turn on the defrost in my '09.

I used a paperclip, but I still had to use pliers to grip the wire and pull it out.

This mod did not work on my '09, nothing changed. Now I can't get the control switch to change modes (def, floor, both). Stuck in panel and floor mode. Any thoughts?

does the switch not move, or does the mode not change?

if the latter, you've pulled a small vacuum line off somewhere, you should be able to hear a small hissing sound if you get your head under there.

The Green ONLY mire must be the Mode select wire on the 2009+ for the servo (positioned 3rd down as looking while connected).
It's all electrical from what what I've found.

Here's a picture that may help Understand.

Edit: The wiring diagram does not reflect the order of the connector! The numbers assosiated with the wires do.

Thank for the help. I have it working now. None of the wires disconnects the A/C. One of the green wires is for the def. and the other is for the floor (I think it is). The pink is hot all the time.

True, but it is much easier to have the a/c clutch engage whenever the defrost is on rather than programming it to engage every 10 mins.

So what does one do if they drive with the FLR/Panel setting all the time?

I just leave mine on the floor position since that covers the floor, windshield and side vents for windows. Does a nice job of clearing the windshield, front windows, warming the entire cab, *and* I don't get blasted in the face with hot air. I almost NEVER use either of the windshield modes.

That's usually what I do, but where I live it's sometimes humid enough that I have to have it on windshield, but not humid enough that the A/C needs to be on.
