Ok, so... I have an '03 that I'm trying to customize. I've noticed some trucks a few years earlier than mine that don't have the silly black fender flares on them. I went to take them off (cuz let's face it... they're gay) and got all of the underside screws off. I thought at this point they would just slide right off, with maybe some adhesive clean-up to do. To my surprise, they made the damn things permanent! There are snap-clips that hold them in, and toyota actually put square holes in the fenders for fastening the flares to... Grrrrr!!! I was wondering what other people have done about this retarded feature? Aside from leaving them on, that is. I was thinking of finding some cool looking bolts to put through the holes and give it the "riveted" look. I really don't want to have to bondo and paint... any other ideas or options out there???

    Fender flares are lame! :jerkoff:

    1. Really?
    2. Wouldn't non-functional bolts in the fenders be gayer than functional flares?
    3. What do you have against teh gay? We'll sic Ben and MJP2 on you, and they will beat you to death with their purses.

    1. Yep.
    2. The only function I see them serving is absorbing sun and turning white and ugly.
    3. Uh oh.

FYI when you break the clips taking the flares off the toyota dealer will lol at you and charge you like $1.50 per clip. That is if you ever want to put them back on the truck.

I broke one off, said WTF, and put all the screws back in... thinking of just doing linex to the whole lower side of my truck, from the horizontal indent on down... should match the matte black bumpers I'll be getting.

there are things you can do to make the flares black again. and they protect from rock chips. either have holes and bitch about it or have flares and bitch about it. if you really really dont like it, then sell the truck and buy one without flares.

mmm i needed to replace my clip because i cut the bottom off where a screw would hold it in place. So i had a floppy flare. BTW Im happy i have silver flares your right the black ones are pretty ugly but would look better linexed.

Sell my truck, he says... lmao! I was really just wondering if anyone has come up with a cool workaround for these. If I didn't want dings, dents, chips, scratches... I would stay on the highway =)

fireturk took his flares off and bedlined where the flares used to be. it looks like there are still flares there but they are gone, that would be the best bet. bedline the lower half of the truck, and where the flares were.

I remember seeing a thread a while back on ttora where a guy put pieces of aluminum tape over the holes and then put bed liner over the areas where the flares were. Couldn't even tell there were holes under the bed liner. I'd say thats your simplest and cheapest solution.

TRD = black flares non-TRD = small, useless chrome flares

if its just that you don't like the faded black look you could either clean them up (Mr Clean Magic Erasers work wonders), paint them to match the body color, or cover them in bedliner.

The flares do serve a purpose (deflecting wayward rocks etc) and I know that the side panels of my truck suffered when I was going around without flares.
