Will 285's work with 1.5" spacer lift

I have searched but cant find what I am looking for. I have a 1.5" spacer lift for my TRD Sport 4x4 I want to know if 285-70-17 tires work on stock sport wheels and 1.25" wheel spacers. I dont do hardcore offroading but I do some beach driving I know I will have to remove the front mudflaps but was planning on that anyway.

 

they will rub..youll need to do some triming...just get bilstein 5100's and be done with it

 

Yea that was what I was thinking they arent really very expensive probably just go that way. Thanks for the rapid response or maybe I will just go with some 275-70-17's

I have 1.25" wheel spacers to keep the tires out of the UCA's thats what I have found while searching.

Bullshit you can fit 285s on a stock tacoma. It just depends on the proper backing ie aftermarket wheels or wheel spacers and how much trimming you are willing to do

Not exactly; I don't see how a 40 inch tire could fit seeing how the height is almost 8" taller than stock. We are talking about 33" tires which will fit given the proper backspacing. The op asked if 285s would fit, not how bad it would look or how much it would rub off road

 

Just as practical as saying you must have 3" lift to fit 285s

 

Then explain why Johnw did it with just spidertrax wheel spacers without any lift.

Says the guy with stock size tires and no lift. I know several members who had to modify their trucks with 3" lift and 285s. Ever heard of cab mount chop? The issue is more the tire rubbing the plastic fender and possibly the cab mount than the size of lift. Most trucks will have to trim to fit 285s even with 3" of lift

 

He is a florida guy on here and he is rinning spindles now and bilsteins iirc front end has like 5" of lift. I think the 285 with no lift was a temp thing.

 

285/70/17 on aftermarket wheels fit just fine in my taco w/ minor trimming and thats without any lift up front, the only rubbing i had was on full lock on reverse. But now im running 5100s up front set on .85 just to lvl the truck w/ non tsb for the moment.

Ok but saying you must have 3" to clear 285s without any modification is misleading and impractical. Tacoma wheel wells were not designed for 285s, so 95% of the time people will have to trim something whether they have 1 or 3" of lift. Sure I know you have been on this site for a long time and so have I, but you can only learn so much by reading. You will never understand the rubbing issue as much as someone who actually has 285s

 

chimming in... 285s may fit for a 1.5" lift if you are a mall crawler. I have 305s (same diameter just wider @ 12.3") and I had to chop my fenders and cab mound chop for wheeling offroad. If I were 100% on the street it may have worked, but who wants to do that
