Only thing is the engine bay heating up the piping. I checked to see if I have leaks to where maybe hot air from the engine bay was getting sucked in and no. I have noticed on a hot day after running the truck the exhaust pipe piece is really hot. So that is why I was wondering if you had a way to measure it since you wrapped yours. It averages 12 degrees warmer but if it is cool outside it comes down to 6 degrees difference.

Ive never checked the temp of mine and I have no means to do so, but I am now curious. I would suggest you wrap yours as well. The temp difference isn't that bad if you consider all of the vehicles that still suck air from the engine bay.

the 4 banger does not have anything other than the stock air hoses and connectors in the engine bay. all the connections where made in the wheel well. i'm still wondering if myself and tacovendor are the only ones that have snorkeled a 4 cylinder.

I guess the slow crawling could raise it up. My air temp censor is back in my engine bay (lazy man's horn relocation) and my temp this weekend was up to 122*.

Well you don't have any worries about engine temp since we didn't have to add in any heat conductive pipe :D

No worries....unless your wheeling in Hell :D I would imagine it might not be the most efficient fuel burn, but it will help in the winter when the engine struggles to maintain operation temp

This winter Ill be turning mine around if it's below 30* to see what happens.

I drove to the airport this morning. The temp outside was 67 the whole drive. Once the engine was warm the intake temp stayed at 77. So 10 degrees difference. I am going to get some wrap to see if it cuts it down at all.

If you think about it from a HS science perspective colliding molecules going down that pipe and colliding on the corners as it goes toward the engine bay would create heat as all colliding molecules do. So I could realistically see a 2 to 3 degree increase by the time it hits the MAF. So I think the exhaust pipe might be absorbing engine bay heat and increasing the temp. So we will see once it is wrapped.

Considering you were getting air from inside your fender before with the stock intake I would be willing to bet that the temp was much higher before than it is now. But I don't know that for sure. Just have a hunch. :D

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
with mine, i've noticed as low as 3* difference, but it usually sits around 5-6* when driving. best i noticed w/ just the AFE drop in was 6*.

btw, check your air filter more frequently now. i was changing my plugs this weekend and took off the air filter box and i had a whole dragonfly, several large bugs, and even a tree frog pushed to the backside of my air filter.

my engine sounds and runs ten times better since the snorkel has been on. the flowmaster exhaust i installed killed it before this either that or it was that stupid resonator thing. now it seems a little more eager to rev and it also took care of the popping noise i would get from the less restrictive exhaust when i roll off the gas.

all in all i would say a nice exhaust and the snorkel is a great combo. i have a afe pro dry s drop in filter on order as well to see if that will further smooth shit out.

I was told not to run a flowmaster exhaust (or any other performance exhaust) with a snorkel. Am I wrong with this info?

What one would you do first, and what do you think about a magnaflow setup?

dont buy the catback if you do. i bought the same SS muffler from the catback for $60 shipped off ebay and paid $100 to have it welded in and new pipe ran that dumped after the axle.

So you'd do the exhaust system before a snorkel?
    Doing this in baby steps.

I've been asked many times if I have ever actually crossed water that would enable the use of the snorkel, and each time I just give'em a big ol' smile and say, "no, I haven't finished getting her ready yet, waterproofing other parts of the truck that is".

From what I have gathered from you guys, is that the door seals are not great at keeping water out, some components, either electrical or mechanical under the hood should/need to be water proofed in order for the snorkel to be fully capable. Not to mention the diff breather mod, which I have not done.

So what else needs to be waterproofed?
