stacking the Shackle AND AAL lift? does it work?

hey guys, i think this is a sort of newbie question but i currently am running the Toytec 2.0" AAL and it been starting to loose its lift. so the front is actually higher than the rear now.

can i throw a set of 2.5" shackles on there and leave the AAL in there too? any input would be greatly appreciated.

does anyone have this lift setup on their truck currently?

a shitty AAL that is sagging an inch + a 2.5" shackle

im beginning to think it may be too much lift.

i got a good deal on the shackles and i wanted to take advantage of it.

hey yall, im seriously considering putting the shackles on this weekend but i dont want to over bend the leaf springs. iv heard they flatten out. and if they are old enough (125,000miles) they might get a negative arch.

does anyone have any input if the shackles will cause a neg. arch?

i just dont wanna waste a weekend putting shackles on and then taking them off....

Your truck is not sagging because the aal is worn out, your truck is sagging because the leafs are wearing out. The shackle will only prolong (and probably not very much) the inevitable conclusion of new leafs. You are correct about them being able to straighten out with the longer shackles as well. The shackles allow the leaf to extend further and get flatter when you go over bumps. I'd start looking at new leafs which ever route you go as you will need them soon.

If you have junkyards around, then maybe start looking into rebuilding your leaf packs with old ford/chevy/dodge/etc leafs. 4wd knows a lot about doing that, and they work well, plus it's a cheap lift.

You should stick on the shackle's for now though, especially if you don't mind upgrading the leaf packs in the future. It just seems a shame to waste such a good

No idea, really. I was told by a guy that the negative arch helped with traction and/or ride quality. I would guess that even if they did go somewhat negative that as long as you don't thrash on them they would last quite a while.

It doesn't seem like a negative arch would be so bad. Fords have a somewhat flat/negative arch to their front leaf packs...but that's a Ford front end.

iv never heard of that. iv always had the idea that leafs are suppose to curve like "U" shape. and a neg arch is bad.

 

Negative arch could possibly give a better ride on the street but the moment you take it off of pavement it will be horrid. Makes it easier to bottom out the suspension
