Maintanance?

hey guys i want to know at what milage should i service my truck, im talking about flushing the tranny, radiator, diff pretty much everything, and how much lube it takes

add more things that should be service regurly

 

My truck came with a maintenance log along with the manual. Do you have that? It tells you what mileage you should change out your fluids. Every things pretty simple until you hit the 30,000 mile marker like me in 6,000 more miles.

 

Really with all of the tranny and diff......Never. unless you have a leak, Very rare on a Taco.

I service my truck (oil, and check coolant) every 10,000- 15,000 take or give a few

 

i dont have the manual, i bought the truck off my uncle and he didnt know he told me it didnt have one(yea right he threw it out) and im over 30k

 

I think some of that data is in the owner's manual as well... but I'm not sure.

best bet go ahead and change out all fluids. you'll be fine with the tranny and diff. im at 65,839 miles still in the same factory fluids

 

Hey Chicken Lips...you can go to toyotaownersonline.com-click on the scheduled maintence tab and input your info. On my taco, I changed the diffs and transfer fluid every 30k. At 60k, I put Amsoil gear oil in so I wouldn't have to change it for 100k. I also flushed the trans at 60k. It's WS fluid and doesn't need to be, but I work at a dealer and have access to fluid and the machine to flush it. At 60k I also put in Irredium plugs so I am good for another 120k on them. Hope this helps.

Do you worry about getting them out after 120k? Do you use Never Seeze?

 

You should not have to change your engines coolant. Make sure to either check it with a refractometer or hydrometer before wasting the money on new coolant.

 

I just remembered something that is very important to take into account. Propylene-glycol coolants cannot be measured accurately with a hydrometer due to there high specific gravity. A refractometer will measure both propylene, and ethylene-glycol coolants very accurately and measurements are not drastically altered due to temperature, as hydrometers are. Just something to think about. Its probably not worth buying unless you do quite a bit of automotive work. Test strips are the next best thing.

Yeah the biggest things on the 30,000 mile maintenance is changing out the differential oil, spark plugs, air filter, in-cab air filter and then your regular engine oil + filter and a tire rotation. I bought all the stuff before hand so I can do the job myself.

 

What is the best way to change out the front diff oil? It seems almost impossible to get access to the front diff. fill hole.

 

Which engine do you have? The 4 cyl comes with the iridium spark plugs already installed, so they are good for 100k. The 6 cyl doesn't, and many people switch them over to the iridiums around the 30k mark.

 

I have the v6. I was told to stay away from the iridiums and stick with OEM so I did. Got some Denso's.

 

Ummm see if you can find tacomaman06. He's the one that helped me out with the diff oil stuff before I bought everything.

 

I go by the book in the truck, except for oil. I change that (filter too) every 3000, not 5000 like the book says.

 

Do you use synthetic or regular. See i switched to synthetic shortly after I got my truck and would change it every 3,000 but lots of people said it was a waste and not to worry about it until 5,000 so that's what I'm going to start to do.

 

I'd check your diff fluids if you 4x4 in deep water. My old chevy used to get contanimated diff fluid from off roading. Most vehicles won't have that problem though.

 

Ok guys....this is the only problem I have with going by the book. It tells you to change driveline fluids only if you tow. I work at a dealer and have seen plenty of Taco's and FJ's the have diff problems with no history of changing fluids. It's not hard to do even at home and is not expensive. As for the 120k plugs, I haven't had what I would call alot of problems with them sticking in the head or pulling the threads. JMO
