Front Passenger Air bag shut of question....

I have a 05 SR5 DC LB. I notice some tacomas have the key in the dash to shut off the front passenger air bags, and some don't. Mine doesn't.

Is this something I can have installed with the proper blank and hardware? Is the wiring already there?

Don't trust the auto sensor thing and whenever I put a bag on the front seat it thinks I have someone sitting there.

It is in regular and access cabs for placement of baby seats and youngsters. You have the ability to shut off the airbag system. The thinking is, you would put the child in the back of your double cab.

 

Anyone do it?

Any idea about the parts required?

That's odd, my '06 regular cab had it. As I said earlier, it allows you to place a car seat or a small child (under 70 pounds or so) in the passenger side without the airbag blowing them through the back window.

Just when I thought I knew everything .... now I've got to search ... ha.

 

yeah i never got how some came with it and some didn't. i have just the sensor in the seat that detects weight. does yours not have that?

 

My '06 regular cab base model and '10 access cab SR5 both have the on/off switch. It seems a bit odd as one is a higher trim level, yet they have the same system.

Someone must have an answer out there.

 

It should be standard in any vehicle where the intent would be to have a child seat in the front. Federal safety laws will not allow you to place a child seat in the jump seats in the back. If you have reg cab, obviously the kid HAS to go in the front. It's there so that when the child is in the child seat in the front, the air bags wont kill him if you get in an accident.

As far as how to put a switch in, I dont know.

 

The wire for the switch is there. Now can you put the switch there and call it a day? No idea. I don't know if it will interfere with the weight sensor or anything else. That's a good question for someone smarter than me.

 

hedlesbrmstkbass pointed out that his regular cab did not have a cut off switch .. that is what this tread has morphed into.

As I stated, my regular cab and access cab have the switch, where as his does not. I understand why it is there. I am aware that it is for child safety .... our posts began to blend.

 

mine doesn't have any wiring for the switch. trust me, my entire dash has been out so i klnda would have noticed it lmao

 

i bought my truck new. there is no wiring back there at all for it, as ive taken out that entire section of dash multiple times for my iPad install lol

 

Then the cheapo access cab seating must not be considered jump seats because mine has the baby seat attachment on one side. And they must not be considered regular seats because I have the shut off switch.

 

This thread certainly has gone downhill ...... ha.
