To those with 35's on your truck. Do you have gears? Yes / No?

Why or why not....and how is it working out for you?

    I have 35's on my '07 DC Auto. I am running 4.56 from when I had 33's.

The 4.56 on 35's gets me back to almost stock gearing - although not much more, I do wish I went 4.88 though if I did it all over.

It actually great - that's why I don't mind the 4.56 as much because if I really need to go low i can with about 194:1.

The 4.88 would have gotten me to 208:1

    @ 65MPH 4.56 on 35" run me 2070RPM with 4.88 it would have been ~2200RPM - with my 33" on 4.56 I was running 2180RPM @ 65MPH

Basically 4.56 on 33" is the same as 4.88 on 35"

Just plug in your trans code and you can compare side to side and add the crawl box too :)

the reason I ask, is because my truck is in the process of going 6" and 35's and from 3" and 33's.....I wont be able to do the gears right away, and my truck is mainly just a highway daily driver, with a dirt road here and there....just wondering how long ill be able to wait on the gears without the truck tearing up....or is it just more annoyance??

Its going to suck. 35" on stock 3.73 gears in an auto will run 1675 RPM at 65MPH - your going to be running around in 4th gear and shifting all the time.

Running 35s with the stock gears, only prob is the low end power... Highway speeds i run right at 2k

I also am debating 4.56 or the 4.88... I want to keep my gas mileage which is over 17

I'm running stock gears. You have less power on the low end but better mpg on the highway.

So far I don't feel the need to get gears. Our trucks are built to handle the additional load. Maybe in the future? Who knows?
But for now it all good!:D

In theory you may be right, but in real world, I dont agree. If you need to load the engine up and use a lot of throttle to maintain 70MPH (esp with all that heavy rubber - 35" tires weigh 60-70lbs each) its not better than feathering the throttle at 2500RPM to maintain 70MPH.

For example - watch your MPG as you go up a steep hill. If you are in your highest gear you need to give it more throttle for it to keep up (using more fuel) vs. downshifting, running higher RPM but the engine doesnt need as much throttle/fuel. On cars with MPG monitors this is very clear.

I was getting better MPG with my 33" and all my armor weight with 4.56 than with my 3.73 gears - both city and highway - corrected MPH for tires/gears.

Also - is your speedo calibrated - is 70 indicated actually 70 MPH with 35" on 3.73 in your truck?

I was just asking, because I had heard that our trucks would not shift into 5th with 35's on the autos?

i do have a fuel monitor and noticed this as well, which is why in those circumstances, the auto downshifts to make up for it. i noticed that tire/wheel combo weight made a big difference. Krookz's 33s and 18s weighed more than my 35s and 17s and he got worse mileage.

edited for your edit: that's w/ the correction for the speedo being off. I have a GPS that shows correct speed as well as the UG that was corrected for the tires as well.

yes it will, it's just quicker to downshift while on the highway and going up a grade.

Someone tell me why eastcoast gear supply wants almost 100 dollars more for 4.56s than for 4.88s
