Aussie locker on a DD? Good or bad idea?

As the title says, would it be a bad idea to put an automatic Aussie front locker on my (manual transmission) Daily Driver?
I read up some on automatic lockers (offroaders.com article) and it seems like it may be a bad idea?
I'm not sure, what's everyone else's opinion? Please don't just redirect me to offroaders.com! Been there done that. Even better would be someone who actually owns these lockers and could tell me from experience!
I'm trying to figure out if it would have a negative effect any of the suspension parts or stuff like that. Does it change gas mileage? Also if it would make it difficult to drive? Obviously there are advantages to having one when you're offroading, but would the pros outweigh the cons?

 

do you have manual hubs? i have no experience or lockers up front but i did here its not good. i think only because its harder to turn/steer. i have also heard with lockers front and rear your like unstoppable lol

i just purchased a rear lock right locker and im a little sketched out like i might have bought the wrong one.

so i will be posting a thread on it with pics after i eat dinner so hopefully some experts will chime in

I wouldn't put a non selectable locker up front in a rig driven on the street.

If you engage 4x4 in the snow and then go around a sharp curve and hit a patch of ice causing a lockup, you might get unexpected results.

No, I have not personally done it.

 

To be honest with you from looking at your sig your not going to need a front locker because your truck wouldn't make it where a front locker is needed. Front lockers are not really used on DD's unless you wheel a lot and you look pretty stock.

On the other hand I have read good things about the Aussie locker on the road. But you would have to watch out in the snow front lockers are not great in the snow.

Jlee, I know I'm pretty stock, but a front locker is on the list of things to do Given, it's pretty far down the list, but it's on it! Just trying to gather information.

 

When I was building up my wrangler, I locked the front first because I figured that it'd drive like normal until I needed 4x4. It was absolutely a pain in the ass in the winter. The snow doesn't have enough traction to unlock it, so you basically end up with a spool when you need 4wd, which means you end up going straight more then turning. I'd absolutely lock up the back before the front.

 

I've got 4wd already, and the back is locked already because I have the offroad package. It doesn't snow where I live, but I'll keep that in mind!

 

Well if its on the list wait save money and buy an ARB it will be much better for a DD.

 

I'm not sure I want to go the air route... I mean I already have an onboard compressor, but it's in the back and running an air hose all the way to the front would suck. I was thinking if I should do selectable locker just go electric. Mostly because wires are easier than hoses to maintain in most cases. Toyota makes front e-lockers, yes?
