I've heard that nicotine is 10 times more addictive than heroin, I believe it. I've been dipping since 12 years old, I'm now 43. My wife has been smoking since she was 18, she's now 39. My wife hacks everynight in her sleep. I'm on her ass daily to quit, I know it's slowly killing her.

Thanks I understand that...he is no longer ready since he is major stressing and nothing I can do to help with it. I'll be patient and help with what I can.

    UPDATE:

Still haven't smoked and I'm starting to lose track of how many weeks it's been. It's either 5 or 6 weeks since my last cigarette. I hardly think of it anymore and give smokers dirty looks when the smoke in front of the door to my hanger. lol

    Yay for me! :D

    Congrats on quitting!

I quit 11+ years ago. I was a nervous 3 pack a day compulsive chain smoker. On March 17th of 1997 I quit cold turkey. Have not had even one since. The Joneses only lasted about 3 days. For the first few months it is truly one day at a time.

It is isn't it. I've made it through some high stress situations lately without the thought ever crossing my mind. The best part for me is I've been off the Chantix for a while now, so I know I can do this.

    Keep on keepin on, brother!

I don't believe it. I believe the effect is more psychological. It's about as difficult as getting rid of any habit you don't like (eating sugar, overeating, being lethargic). Heroin addiction can take effect immediatly, with one shot, which is why the criminal element use it to control others. People can be more motivated to quit heroin when they hit rock bottom and their lives are on the brink of destruction. With cigarettes, the harm to the body is small and long term, so there is not as much incentive to stop. Plus if it were that addictive, even non-smokers who were frequently exposed to it would take up smoking.

UPDATE: Starting my 7th week of no smoke... :D

Doing good... had an odd craving this past weekend while at the local teppanyaki restaurant after we finished eating and had a couple shots of hot sake...

Chewed some gum -- good to go. 41 days of taking Chantix left.

Any issues with the side effects of the Chantix?

Glad to hear you are doing well :D.

The biggest side effect I have is nausea. It's bad for about 30 minutes after taking the pill -- that's about it...

My dreams have gone back to normal... I maybe have a touch of insomnia... but so far it's worth it.
