OK, Please show me proof that a oil on sale for $3.80 is not as good as one at the stealership or from the pyramid scam for $10 or $15 a qt both with the same standard. Thanks for your reply. Always willing to learn.

The "proof" is in the pudding.

Just go to http://www.bobistheoilguy.com and look at their used oil analysis section/forum, as well as virgin oil analsysis section (oil that hasn't been used), and look at guys running synthetic oil with much longer than standard 5000 mile change intervals. You'll see a trend amongst people who run higher quality synthetic oil.

Better yet, tear down your engine after 200,000 miles after having run good quality synthetic oil like Amsoil and on top of it having run like it's brand new for that entire time, the internal components will look like they're brand new as well.

Even better - run it, and you WILL notice the difference in how your engine runs.

    Standards are 'MINIMUM' standards.

My only options are dealership oil or pyramid scam (?) oil?

What about just comparing generic oil with normal market synthetic oils like Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1, or Valvoline Syntec? Look at the references provide by the poster above here, or look at the effects of using cheap non-synthetic oil in engines with turbochargers. Non-synth oils coke up in high heat conditions much earlier than synth oils do. Non-synth oils leave more deposits and sludge in engines.

Again, just because it meets the minimum standards for the API service mark (e.g. the starburst with SJ in it) does not mean that it is equivalent to another oil that happens to hold the same API mark.

Ive been running Royal Purple since mile 5000. I love the stuff, my grandfather ran it in his IMCA modified when he was alive so I kinda grew up on it. For for me my vote was for royal purple.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Royal Purple is really good oil, the worst oil though is Pennzoil, would never put that shit in any of my vehicles! After Royal Purple I would say either Valvoline or Mobil 1

What is the problem with Pennzoil? Have you or someone you know had a engine failure because of it? I am not saying Pennzoil is good but I am wondering why you think it is bad since my Toyota dealer uses it for oil changes. They use the blended or full synthetic.

... YIKES ... and I was going to order some Amsoil next week too ...

FWIW .... Royal Purple, Redline & Amsoil are my favorites. I do the oil about every 3 months or 3,000 miles and change the crush washer each time ... use Mobile 1 when I am out of other brands.

Haven't done much (if any) research, have you? PP tests quite well. I would know since I've used it on my last two vehicles and tested on both.

Not to mention, it also cost me $18, $5 cheaper than M1 (which is also a good oil I used for years), at Walmart on Saturday when I did my most recent oil change.

Change Once a year or 15,000 miles which ever comes first.
I pay the few dollars to be a preferred customer and order it directly from Amsoil.
