Problem Pumping Gas

I've got an '06 Tacoma and for the last couple months it's developed a problem where anytime I try to pump gas, the pump automatically shuts off every few seconds as if the tank were full. It does this at all gas stations and has never had this problem before a few months ago. Anyone else encountered this?

Had the same problem with my jeep. Not sure what causes it???

 

May have to just fill it slowly, as it doesn't take much back pressure to trip the pump handle. I have only noticed it on mine twice. Filled up at stations I normally don't use and the pumps ran faster.

 

Try not sticking the knozzle in so far..... or tilt it a little.

Or perhaps try a different pump or gas station.

I haven't had any problems with mine but depending on the pump itself, could be more sensitive than other pumps in terms of shutting off. Or, perhaps a different angle to allow more air in there so the gas flows better.

I have an '06 with the same problem. Has something to do with the way the filler neck was designed.

 

Same problem on '02. I reported it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administartion(It's easy). I claimed it was a dangerous defect because the tank could overfill upon filling because one does not know from traditional means when the tank is full. Report yours.

 

My 5 lug did that ALL the time. I had to put the nozzle in the perfect place to get it to pump right. The truck I have now does not have that problem at all.

 

I have that problem all the time! I was just about to search for a topic like this. I'll try to tilt it or pull it out a bit next time around.

 

the gas is stored underground where its kept nice and cool. doesnt get warm.
op: it sucks, but just pump it slower. i know everyones in a hurry these days, but maybe a different angle might help out. ive had vehicles/pumps like that. frustrating!

 

Move to Oregon and your problem is solved... (the station attendants pump the gas here.)

That happens to me too sometimes. but its only a certain gas stations.

 

Someone once said that there's a coiled spring a few inches into the pipe...it's purpose is to prevent sticking a siphoning tube into the tank.

If so... could something have gotten into the fill tube and the spring is keeping it from going all the way down... but it's partially blocking the flow of gas?

just a thought...

 

I dunno, the attendants always seem to fill it just fine for me...

 

Never had the problem on my '06. On my '08 I have to jostle the pump nozzle around a bit once in a while so it will pump properly.

 

Had a Silverado that did the same thing. My buddy borrowed the truck and he asked me whats up gas tank. He then said something I will never forget "I guess you can't go balls deep with the nozzle in that truck".

Check the vent line for obstructions. It's the smaller line parallel to the filler line.
