    I have an 07 Tacoma pre-runner with 97,000 miles. Good fluids all around. I let the fuel run wicked low, and barley made it to the gas station this morning. Filled it up as full as full can get (Toped off) and drove 4.5 hours for business. Got in the truck 20 minutes after arriving to my destination, Truck won't start.

    It starts a little for a little it but never longer than 5 seconds, then cuts off. Fuel guage says 1/4 tank.

    Absolutley NO PROBLEMS the whole drive!!

    Love my truck, never had any issues, this is the first hick-up. I'm in a strange place and know NO ONE...please help!!!!

    Seems odd, but likely a fuel pump problem. If so, you're going to have to have it towed.

    no offense but I wouldnt do this....

    Odds are it is a bad fuel pump...filling the tank will only be a waste of money and make it that much more difficult for getting the pump replaced

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    Could be a few things. Start with the Air filter. If its dirty enough to be plugged, the engine will start, then die. Also check the EFI fuse. Will it stay running if you give it a little throttle?

    Curiously I just went out and gave it a try and it started right up. Could it be that in letting it get so low when I filled it, it sturd some stuff up from the bottom? Perhaps creating a clog that has since released?

    I was thinking fuel filter, or pump. There's a chance if you let it get that low you could suck sediment into the filter which could bork the pump or both.

    Kinda related FYI. As we know running at low fuel lets the crap in the tank get sucked up. Also if you go to a gas station when the truck is refilling the tanks the same crud gets washed around. If you fill your tank while a truck is filling the gas station you end up filling your tank with alot of the sediment that is normally on the bottom. Kinda Random and useless but i never fill up when i see a truck.

    With an extremely low fuel level the fuel pump can become damaged.

    The fuel pump uses the fuel in the take to cool its self. When you run out of fuel (or low on fuel) the fuel pump can overheat.

    I have always ran all my cars down to e and never had a prob. I would say I see the gas light 3 times a week and take it real low. Isn't that why we have fuel filters to block that crap?
