I think the government should spend money on fighting violent criminals and leave the recreational drug users to fend for themselves.

People get life sentences for dealing heroin and meanwhile we can't even keep a child killer in jail for the rest of the summer.

I respect your opinion but disagree. The main hurtle is the feds, if and when that is cleared it will most likely be California or Colorado that legalize. Colorado could still pass it on a state level and I highly doubt the feds will jump in, even when it's still illegal federally. The elderly do vote but they also pass away and make room for the next generation of elderly voters. Prop 19 wasn't too far away from passing itself. Once it does become legal in a state and they see how profitable it is, other states, mainly the medicinal states will start jumping on board.

Of those 33% who tested positive for Marijuana, how many where actually under the influence rather than just having it in their system from a previous use? Article doesn't really make that clear.

Driving under the influence of any substance, legal or not, isn't safe.

Don't even get me started on THAT liberal crap.

Those folks were arrested because it is illegal for the homeless to loiter or assemble in a 1 mile radius from the courthouse.

If those people really CARED and wanted to FEED THE HOMELESS, they'd set their tables up a few blocks down the road where all the homeless people ACTUALLY ARE.

It's all just a tactic to lure people like you and me who may not know all the details of the situation turned against local law enforcement.

Like I said, it would be really nice if these liberal pseudo-intellectual peacemakers would shut the hell up, get the hell off of facebook and read a damn book for a change.

edit: I live right outside orlando, and I actually know some of these douchebags involved in this stupid campaign.

The part I thought funny is when asked why the people were being arrested the cop actually says "Intent to feed 25 people"

I don't disagree with you but it still cracked me up.

It seriously grinds my gears. If they wanted to feed people, all they would have to do is move. And it's not like they cant do it DOWNTOWN, it's within 1 mile of the courthouse.

Homeless people can't sleep there, cant sit there, can't stand there legally. The Food Not Bombs folks are luring them in to that area so they DO get arrested for it, then post the video on the internet and show everyone (across the united states, apparently) how TYRANNICAL the Orlando Police Department is.

I'm not talking bad about liberals. I'm calling it "liberal crap". Thats like saying a movie is stupid because it has a bunch of "girly crap" in it. It's a descriptive element of the subject of which I am discussing. No rules broken.

And technically, being an ardent libertarian, I am both LIBERAL AND CONSERVATIVE. I.E, a Social Liberal and Fiscal Conservative.

Before you read this please know that I DO NOT condone or support driving under the influence of any drugs, prescription or not. I am simply saying it's not as altering as alcohol.

Did you read the article? Guessing not or you would have seen that it does affect your driving. Please read the article before you try to slander it.

    And once again.

NORML - did - not - do - the - tests. They simply published it.

And to quote some more of your California Department of Justice research since you only felt the need to quote what best suited your position(in bold):

The federal government's Department of Transportation conducted research with a fully interactive simulator on the effects of alcohol and marijuana, alone and in combination, on driver-controlled behavior and performance. "The Effects of Alcohol on Driver-Controlled Behavior in a Driving Simulator, Phase I", DOT-HS-806-414. The study found that alcohol consistently and significantly caused impairment -- but that marijuana had only an occasional effect. Further, there was little evidence of interaction between alcohol and marijuana. Finally, speeding tickets and accidents went up with the use of alcohol, but no marijuana or combined alcohol-marijuana influence was noted.

Coming to a different conclusion, however, the California Department of Justice found that marijuana does impair impair driving skills, particularly at high-dose levels or among inexperienced users. "Marijuana and Alcohol: A Driver Performance Study", California Office of Traffic Safety Project No. 087902.

Yet, a more recent federal study has found that "THC [the intoxicating ingredient in marijuana] is not a profoundly impairing drug….It apparently affects controlled information processing in a variety of laboratory tests, but not to the extent which is beyond the individual’s ability to control when he is motivated and permitted to do so in driving". "Marijuana and Actual Performance", DOT-HS-808-078

The study concluded that "it appears not possible to conclude anything about a driver’s impairment on the basis of his/her plasma concentrations of THC and THC-COOH determined in a single sample".

And did you read any of the things I posted? I can give more info saying it DOES in fact impair, just as bad as anything else, if you need.

And to speak from past experiences, the concept of driving while high baffles me. Being high in the past sparked a paranoia so great that I couldn't even fathom leaving my chair, let alone getting up and trying to drive somewhere. I guess its that "first time user" thing the OP had outlined in that article.
