that the seller said toyota did the frame recall? I found the truck I want, problem is the seller is 8-9 hours north. Now, he said the truck got a new frame from toyota. I got a couple pics of the body with minor imperfections, along with a rusted out rear bumper(no biggie)..Question is, would you buy a truck that has had the frame recall done? If you had it done, do you have any new noises or problems? I ran a carfax on it, and it said nothing reported but DMV stuff, and a couple maintence records, which is good. I asked him to send me pics of the underneath, and he said he would send them later. Anyways, thoughts?

    wildjerseyfirefighter,

Ask to see the reciept from the "frame swap" and ask for the dealers name; 2 points here...

    1) see exactly what was done;add-ons if any ;) My paperwork is VERY detailed and 4 pages thick ....

    2) will they possibly transfer remaining 15 year warranty to you....

The rest is up to you BUT having a garage look at it "up there" might be a wise investment also; a pre-state inspection of some kind .....$35-80 spent up front might save you .....

Sorry, I got a bit excited.

02 tacoma 4x4 v6 manual. 70,500 miles on it. Asking $12,250. The seller showed me a couple of pics of the "bad spots"..Tiny almost invisable dent, small scratch on the back of the cab, and the notorious rusted out rear bumper.

Nice, but maybe a bit too high $$$ ???

    I like his advise \/\/\/\/
they ended up buying back my 99' for $12k last year ( 1 1/2x excellent book value) so I can't comment on the paperwork aspect...

    Best of luck to you!;)

I drove to boston with a bank draft to buy a certain truck, that was a 7.5 hour drive... When i got there it wasnt what I was expecting so i put my tail between my legs and drove home the same day. 15 hours total driving... without buying the truck. for that reason my vote is yes i would.

Looks like a nice truck but the only thing i'd be worried about is the rusted bumper. Admittedly a bumper isn't that hard to replace but i doubt the bumper is the only rusted part. If the bumper has rust, other parts do too.

Thats what I'm worried about, its not what I want, and I just wasted all that time. I fully expect to not pay that 12,250 for that truck. I'd off him $10,000 cash.

I had replaced the bumper on my 96 since it was rusted, nothing else was bad. He does have a ball mounted on the rear bumper, so thats probably why it rusted out.

I sent him off an email asking to see a copy of the frame swap, and the dealers name. If I can get that, Ill call the dealer tomorrow and ask questions.

$mart young man...patience will get you the truck you are looking for.

Bumper should NOT be a problem if it was truly re-framed; they would NOT weld it back on to NEW...bolts had to re attach it; just a given....;)

8 hours is nothing. I flew to texas and drove 34 hours back. I wouldn't do it again but 8 hours I would probably do.

I suggest you find someone on the forum near by the seller to go take a look at the truck for you and report back

When you've gathered the information you need I wouldn't worry about the distance. It's always worth traveling for the right purchase. I flew to Texas and drove back 24 hours when I bought my Land Cruiser. Turned out to be a great purchase as it's been my wife's daily driver ever since and has made countless wheeling trips. I bought it with 110K miles on it and it is currently sitting at ~260K miles and still going strong. Like I said, get all the information you need and if it checks out then do what you need to to get it.

I bought my 03 with 80k on the clock for $14,750 and drove 15 hours round trip. I think the OP has a killer deal on his hands. Granted mine looked like it had never left the drive way, inside and out.

To the OP...you've recieved good advice here on what to look for. I hope all works out. Post pics when the deed is done!

Try posting in the regional section for "locals"......large group from Mass on here and depending where exactly located, some of us from NH might not be far away ;)....

    Sounds like a decent deal.

I bought an '02 with 60k. Flew from AK to SLO to buy it, started driving 10 minutes after I handed the seller a check.

8 hours isn't shit. Ask the dude to knock 500-1000 off for a plane ticket and go get it.

It sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders and no what to look for/ask.
