    getting there....
you'll need a 4 inch deckplate.....and online, you can get one from overtons.com, or if you have a local boating supply place...they should have them.

the deckplate mod is awesome man!!:D

the inlet "horn" on the stock air cleaner box is pretty small. a deckplate (when open) mod will allow a lot more air in quickly. some say it gives you more ponies than a 300 dollar CAI does.

you can follow up the deckplate mod with the intake silencer mod if you want a growl when you put your foot in it.

I know its offtopic but I helped put in an irrigation system in Mr.Overton's house before I moved back to the homefront. This dude has his own lake and golf course and grounds crew on his land. Ridiculous income and the worst part is he's not that smart but he is a nice guy.

a lot of people have adopted the deckplate mod (including me) to a non supercharged 3.4 (and some 2.7l) engines

the dyno tests done with it were on a superchaged 4runner and it consistently got better #s than supercharged with a CAI

when you can spend $10 instead of $300...its worth a shot

a lot of people close them when they go thru water or if its raining etc etc

i leave mine open all the time...ive never had an issue...once i had a spot of mud get under the filter...but it was about a quarter sized spot and you could tell it had just barely squeezed under

The dyno runs I have done with it, were all on NA engines and showed similar gains. :)

The writeup at TRDOffroad says the biggest that'll fit on a 4 banger is a 3 incher:

    Materials and items needed:
    - 3-5 inch deckplate (3" is as big as you can fit on a 4-cyl)
    - 3/4 inch long pan head screws
    - matching nuts, (nylocks prefered) and washers
    - 1 bottle of black RTV "sensor safe" silicone

I've never seen under the hood of a 4 so smart money would take Chris' word for it. ;)

    getting there....
you can still install the deckplate in front.........washer filler wont have any real negative affects....maybe a bit tighter to get the cap screwed in.....but you'll be leaving it off for the biggest majority of the time.

X2. Take the air box out to do the install. The washer filler neck can be moved out of the way enough to put the deck plate on if needed.

That what I put in my 2002 2.7
It gets a little louder in full throttle
The deckplate barely fits so measure 3 times and cut once :)
