    Our frames rust, Period.

If u plan on keeping your truck do some preventive maintenance, bought some HD Metal Protectant from amsoil, 6 bucks a bottle, sprayed the entire frame and leafs with one bottle. Not only does it penetrate rust like wd40 but it also left a waxy coating, not sure how long itll last but it seems like itll work.for awhile

So far, no one has given us any factual information beyond the anecdotal.. Since you seem to be the one who's without a doubt correct and therefore fully imbued with knowledge and factual details... tell us all what the problem is with the frames that make Toyota's rust?

Why is it that Nissan's or Chevy's, or Ford's rusting frames are not a problem?

And please, no references to the already acknowledged and, we are told, fixed Dana process issues of the early part of the last decade... UNLESS you have FACTUAL information that they actually were NOT fixed!

Didn't say you were the ONLY one. So since you and your friends ARE without a doubt correct.. about what, I wonder? and based on what facts?

As for me: I never said the Toyota frames are not problematic without a doubt. The only thing I have said with very little doubt is that ALL frames rust including Toyotas which pretty much stipulates your experience is valid. But I have also said that nothing here has convinced me that Toyota's (in the second gen Tacoma, just to be specific and further separate this discussion from that panderingly prejudicial and manipulative article) rusting is exceptional, or a potential problem.

So convince me. Lay the science on me bro! Answer those questions I asked with equally dispassionate, irrefutable columns of comparative figures as in that lease discussion.

But absent that what looks to be happening here is best characterized by 81shark's question: a bunch of kids looking for something free because they think Toyota will do it again. In the process, all they are likely to achieve is talking down resale values for all of us.

Why you did not say this at the beginning? You dont want/like the topic because you think it may lower trucks re-sale value.

I dont expect Toyota to give me anything free but I expect them to honor their warranty and stand by their work. Rusting junk is not acceptable. And it is rusting, there is enough proof on this very forum to fill a book.
So what you saying Tundra frame recall is not true either?
Now, lastly how Toyota could change manufacturing process for 2007 truck if Frame recall for Tundra came in 2010. 1gen recall came in 2008
So even if they changed anything this could have happen only for this year trucks manufactured in Texas.

BTW My 16 year old Toyota has frame in better shape then many 2gens have on the dealer lot. and I have done nothing to it and none of the previous owners had done anything to it. Factory rust proofing so far lasted 16 years and keeps ticking. So apparently it can be done.

I'm not here to convince anyone of anything , I'm hardly a kid , and not looking for Toyota to do anything free for me .

My truck wasn't free , far from it , and I think that for the money I paid that a new vehicle should not be showing substantial surface rust on just about every weld on my frame after one winter .

I do maintain my vehicles and wash the undercarriage weekly in winter .

    What is your malfunction ?

It's not the topic exactly... it's the mindset relating to how this is being approached. The press loves to push buttons, they did it with relish with the 'uncommanded acceleration' debacle... you saw how it all came to nothing.

I'd just like to see something more substantial I guess... has anyone heard of Nissan buying back trucks for their 'frame rot'? Cause if the complaining posts on a forum are the standard against which to measure they should have, especially since I can personally look at one that is pretty darn ugly.

I am, of course, being sarcastically facetious because everyone knows that whining complaints on Nissan Frontier forums aren't proof of anything except Nissan owners are whiners.

Well. I was going to hand sand my frame tonight and paint it with some rustoleum paint, but we got some nasty storms this morning. So instead I will be cutting/moving the trees/limbs that fell in the yard and doing general cleanup.

I understand your point now. I honestly do. And I agree that the approach had a motive behind it. :)

A few days ago I was considering getting under there and doing some kind of sanding-cleanup-protective-undercoating-sealant-paint type thing but I ended up going under there with a rag, spraying the area with WD40 and using the rag to rub it in HARD and at least clean it up a little. Then I just sprayed the heck out of area - well, I SOAKED the area - with WD40. Makes a lot of sense that layers of paint or sealers would actually trap the rust and force it to go INTO the frame rather than to stay on the surface, so I decided to try this instead.

I must have sprayed that sucker pretty good because even though I did this outside, I ended up getting sick from the fumes. :(

Went under there yesterday to take a peek and it's still a bit oily but it looks really clean. Still a little rust but it's just as clean as how I left it. And after hearing here that surface rust really is okay, then I can truly say that I'm okay with things right now.

Thanks for all of this discussion, I really learned a lot here.
