I think MJ is compared to Alcohol for a couple reasons:
    1. Like MJ Alcohol was legal, made "illegal", then made legal once again.
    2. Alcohol is not considered a hard drug, like MJ.
    3. Drinking is socially acceptable and in many circles, and so is smoking MJ.
The comparison when used to argue something like the legal status of MJ can offer quite a bit a historical perspectives as well as possible solutions. The Great Experiment was once held as a triumph, until it became beyond obvious that it had indeed failed.

First off, I do agree that Marijuana is not a horrible drug that kills people instantly but there are plenty of reasons why it is a narcotic. But going back to your above quote. By this logic, you could say "Wow, you can't blame cocaine, crack, heroin, and meth for killing people, you can only blame the people." They (marijuana included) are all highly addictive substances that control people's addiction centers in their brain and impair their judgment and decision making. I don't like addicts because they first chose to start the drug but there is a reason why they are addicted. I spot a couple of holes in your defense.

Time to try my first Poll.

After weeding through "Please sign this petition regarding a hearing for HR 2306" and seeing it end up all over the place I'm left curious how the members actually feel about the idea this bill brings up that it could be better to just get the federal government out of the Pot war and leave it to the states. It appears the heads of the committees that can forward this bill for discussion have essentially said "no dice, we know enough about weed and states rights be damned your bill is gone, no discussion".

What say you? I'm a non-pot smoking states right libertarian type that thinks states can decide just fine how to deal with this substance just like each state has it's own liquor laws. Any state could keep all existing laws and keep up the good fight, or allow medical use, or milder fines, or total legalization, etc.

Imo if you allow those things to become an addiction they will. Same for Coffee/Caffeine, and Alcohol too.

If you can't control your intake of coffee, like say having multiple cups a day, then yeah that probably means you have an addiction to caffeine.

when Local police raid a drug dealer and get a load of cash, they get to keep a BIG chunk of it and that is why it won't get the green light. That money is not against their budget. It's gravy on top.

Weed has bad consequences just like coffee cigarettes and booze.. but the real question is should we be free or should people tell us what we can and can't do to ourselves.
