Well... not really mon ami..... Defibrillation is used when the heart's electrical activity is in chaos and not producing a "beat". No pulse. If you defibrillate a normal heart, you more than likely will put it into a pulseless electrical chaos with no pulse.

I sure hope it goes as planned..... Right now I have some VERY hot wires. Which is why she is sitting at work with the battery disconnected. :(
It very well can!! What can happen is one of three things when a person goes into cardiac arrest. 1) Normal electricity that doesn't produce a pulse because too much heart tissue has died. 2) Chaotic electricity that isn't capable of producing a pulse 3) No electricity - which is flat line - asystole. Stick with me kiddo, you'll learn stuff.

So which of the 3 can be difib'd? or would you try to revive regardless?

LOL, I'm not sure about his personal habits, but I'd assume most likely

Well each case is different. If there are obvious signs of death (rigor, blood pooling, etc) with a flat liner, no efforts can be made. Flat liner who just went down - was witnessed, we will work, even though the efforts are usually futile - but no defibrillation - just cpr and drugs. The electrical chaos we defibrillate, cpr, drugs. The normal electricity with no pulse gets drugs, cpr - possible pacing. That's kinda a simple way to put it, but there are some other rhythms we deal with in arrest, but would be too complicated to explain. :D
