I have 3rz 2.7 Tacoma motor and I am experiencing a high idle. After tons of searching I have been pointed in the direction of the iac valve. I removed the throttle body and then removed the iac from the bottom of it. What is unclear is what the butterfly valve should look like at rest. Mine is half open. When you test it like the manual I can get it to close and to open completely but at rest it is halfway open. Is that normal? I was also reading that a the ect can give you a high idle. Mine has been raised and replaced with a manual unit to go with some auto meter guages, would that trigger the IAC to not function? Thanks in advance

Your butteryfly valve in the Tb is half open??? That sounds like a hell of a lot. What are your engine RPM's? Does your RPM's fall when you kick the accelerator?

When your TB was removed was the butterfly still open? Or just when it was mounted?

Sorry the throttle body itself was fully closed. The iac door is half open, does that make sense?

See if this helps you for testing the IACV. It's for the 3.4, but the concept should be about the same.

Can you go into more detail with this? You replaced the auto tranny with a manual tranny?

I changed the temp sending unit that goes into the water inlet where it enter the motor on passenger side. The reason this gets all difficult is that I put this motor in a 1969 rover to keep the Toyota dream alive. Unfortunately I have Never ran this motor, until I installed in the car and I have been idling at 1500 rpm since. The tranny and transfer case are mini truck. I am running t100 oil pan for the conversion. Can you help me locate the ect.

The ECT is in the rear pass side of the motor.

Take the timing belt cover off - 5 ish bolts by memory. Just follow the top coolant hose to the engine. You will need to drain some coolant first or you might spill.

Get a propane blow touch and look for vacuum leaks. Be careful. Keep a fire extinguisher or similar handy. Apparntly carb cleaner isn't what it use to be (environmental friendly products) so doesn't do as good a job at finding the vac leaks.

Also push your TB buttler fly right back hard by pushing the spring lever. Ensure it is fully closed and the cable isn't hanging up.
