15k service

My truck just hit 15k 2011 4cylinder 4x4 anyone know the rough cost for the service? My tires do need to be rotated but I think I could do the rest myself. If I didn't do the service and just rotated the tires does this void the warranty?

 

You can have the service done where ever you choose. No warranty issues, just use quality parts/oils/filters to protect your truck. If you do everything yourself, it wouldn't cost you much. I'm not sure about the 4 cylinder but the V6 I believe only called for an oil change, inspect diff oils (whatever the hell that means), rotate tires, and check/change the air filter and cabin filter. You should probably check your brakes while you're rotating the tires also. If you have a set of jack stands and a torque wrench, rotating your tires is a fairly easy process. If you do it all yourself, it'll be cheap - oil and filter <$25, air filter $20 - 50 (depending on the brand you use), cabin filter <$10, tire rotation free!

You edited your first post, it doesn't void the warranty if you don't ahve the service done, but if something fails and you haven't serviced it, good luck fighting that one. Oils and filters are cheap insurance for the truck's moving parts.

Good luck with everything! Doing the maintenance yourself is a great idea. You get to know the truck and will start to pick up or notice if something is wrong or out of place, things a dealership or service station may overlook or ignore.

 

Didn't it come with a service plan?

 

Gaitlin Yes my truck has the service plans in the plan it has a coupon that says 10% off major service at 15k, 30k, 45k and 60k. So I just wondering how this normally runs for maintenance.

 

A lot of times those turn out to be a rip off (the 10% off major service) because it requires you to purchase their entire service package at their original price first. Personally, I was using the dealership for oil changes for a couple years because competition drove the price down to $10/oil change! Once you get into the diff oil swaps, air filters, cabin filters, tire rotation, they just rape you on pricing. I'd be willing to bet the 15,000 miles service at a dealership is around $125 +/-.

One thing I forgot, and again, not sure if it applies to 4 cyl but I'd imagine it would, grease the drive line!

 

Ah that makes sense...My maintenance ends just before spark plug time....that is why I asked.

 

Thanks for the info guys 125 dollars isn't horrible if they check all the fluids including the diffs, drive lines and lube my leaf springs. I think I will just suck the cost of this one up and try to get work to reimburse it

 

Just looked up the 15k service at a local place, $129 for standard oil, $169 for synthetic. It includes:
Engine oil & filter
Top off fluids
Check rotate and set tire pressures (not sure how you rotate tire pressures but that's what their ad says...)
Clean cabin air filter and check engine air filter
Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs
Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis and tighten drive shaft bolt
Lubricate propeller shaft
Re-torque propeller shaft bolt
Inspect ball joints, dust covers, brake lines, drive shaft boots, engine coolant, accessory drive belts, exhaust pipes and mounts, steering gear box, steering linkage, radiator core and condenser, rear differential oil and reset maintenance reminder and TPMS lights.

With the dealerships we've got around here, I'm guessing their inspection includes "Yep, it's all there, good to go".

 

Pugga thanks for looking it up. I actually put mobile1 in at 10,000 miles and I just hit 15,000 so I might just tell them to skip that. Thanks for looking it up with all the info that was very much appreciated!

 

I figured if you were going to run with my wild ass guess on pricing, I might as well check it out to see if I was close. I just did the switch to Mobil 1 myself at 40,000 miles I just bought a house so my Tacoma is seeing much more abuse in the towing/hauling department and figured it was time to switch. How long do you go between oil changes with the full synthetic? Do you still change it every 5,000 miles or leave it in longer?

 

I think the 15,000 is free on the 2011. You are good up to 25,000 miles.

At 30,000 recomendationis for differenctial oil and spark plugs.
Some things go earlier if you tow.

 

When my truck hit 1,000 miles I changed to mobile1. I changed it again at 10,000 miles, I was skeptical of what oil they used at the factory so I just changed it out. When I had my 4 runner was changing every 8,000-9,000 miles just to be safe. They say you can go 10,000 but I guess its more of a mental reassurance for me.

it will be free i have the same thing im getting mine donw on sat.I also work for toyota you should be covered for 2 years 25000 for ALL service except tires and brakes.

 

Ya my 15k service was free! thank you everyone! Oh and I dont think they lubed the chassy though my leaf's still squeek! Use i use lithium grease it last about a week
