in cooking pans i was learned that aluminum conducts heat faster than most any other metals if i'm wrong on this correct me. at least with a direct heat source like a stove element or flame from a burner aluminum tranfers heat very well but reacts with acids so gray sauces are common in guys fresh out of culinary school:stirthepot:

I'm just saying I think everyone might be worrying too much about nothing :notsure:

When CoTaco has his results back then we will see, but I'm not gonna worry or assume anything until then.

I just don't want people reading the thread worrying about temps when tons of people have been running these snorkels for 5 years now with no issues.

mine is great lol but i don't have the pipe running through the engine bay like you v6 guy's. regardless it has to be cooler air than the stock setup no matter what you do christ it's a functional ram air past 20mph right and the factory intake spot has to be hot from the engine that wheel well must trap engine heat certainly more than a your seeing now with a snorkel.

lol actually i think gold plated would work the best. iirc the engine bay of the mclaren f1 was completely gold plated to reflect and sheild from the high temps, so gold is your best bet.

Very good point Oswego. I think people are not aware of the temps that actually occur under the hood. I am sure that the readings I get are acceptable temps for under hood action with the engine but just try to state findings is all.

That said while out in the rain yesterday for over an hour the engine heated up good (did not overheat or anything) and the best I could get is within 26 degrees of outside temp(running at 55 on the highway). I think the wrap is holding too much heat in. I registered a new high temp of 127 degrees after running for an hour stopped at location for 25 minutes and then restarted. Once moving again it came down to 97 degrees. Outside temp though was 71 degrees. Will go for the rest of the week as we are suppose to dry out and heat up to make sure it doesn't have anything to do with the moisture we are getting right now.

Yeah I am thinking that plastic would be the least heat conducive. Problem is finding a formed S bend piece of plastic tubing that isn't corrugated inside but smooth. The ridges in a flex pipe turbulate air. :D

I know I am high maintenance.

It's not a bad install. Just takes a while to get everything test fit perfectly. I would say 3-6 hrs depending on skill level. Removing the fender splash guard body clips is by far the worst part IMO.

No way there is more than one of us? Some of my install was jacked but when assisted in another install it came out perfect for him. You just need to find someone who has installed one first to help you through it.
