Hey all, I just used my new Lincoln Electric Mig 140 Pak that I bought a month ago. Built some gym attachments for my olympic bench. It worked great. Im new to Mig but not to welding. Did a bit of it in College when doing a carpenters course. Im looking for new projects right now.

The unit I bought is a 110V model. I chose it because it can do up to 5/16ths but im only used 12 guage metal so far. For me thats enough. If I was to reccomend to a novice welder chose a 110V unit. Its good for light to medium duty work and duty cycle doesnt need to be that high if your not stringing long beads at one time. I thought i would run into some issues with that but didn't.

Glad to say I now own and know how to MIG weld. Wish I had done this sooner.

 

I think I mentioned I picked up a plasma cutter. Thermal Dynamics--baby one, the Cutmaster 39.

I recently had a problem with the torch not connecting properly. Apparently, I'm not the only one to experience that problem (if the torch doesn't connect properly, you're screwed). TD replaced the whole torch assembly under warranty and I'm good to go.

If you've got the Cutmaster 39 or anything that uses the SL60 torch, you might want to check before too long that the quick connect works properly.

looking for someone to build me a vault replacing the plastic storage under a 2010 DC rear seats.

is there anything in the way of doing this?
whats the cost?
is there enough room to make a rifle (AR-15) vault?

 

i did not read tall the posts (don’t fill like reading 14 pages of them) but what would be a decent welder thats would not set me back to much. i understand they are a but pricy anyways. and that would not be to hard to learn with? i would like to get one and learn how to weld and make some stuff. maybe build a basket for some bed rails or something.

 

Id start with craigslist and go from there and it just depends on what your looking for

 

yeah thats what i thought. i have never welded before. so i don’t need the biggest best welder out there. just something i can play with and learn. and plain some projects. maybe make something to the truck. or the rhino.

 

If you are trying to do wire feed welding try home depot or lowest and get a might machine its all in what you want to spend

 

Better yet, look around and see if there are any places that are like this.

You can take classes using their gear. If you see yourself moving forward, you can buy something.

Also, I find it kind of disrespectful to say you didn't feel like reading 14 pages of posts to find the information you just got in the last couple of posts. How would you feel if the vast majority of responses were "I don't feel like answering this question twice"?

and i’m sorry i did read all of the first 3 and last 2. i have already been told by some one that they would not answer a question and to search for it. and i see allot of members say that to new member that have had 1 or 2 post. and say search it. it would prob take a good 20 min or more to read every post on 14 pages.

 

My first attempt at 5G pipe TIG. It's alot harder than I thought. I've finished 5 & 6G stick welding.

 

Nice i just got my 211 it's still in the box i need to set this thing up so I can start burning some steel.

 

I got my Lincoln 180 mig off ebay brand new for $520. It is a great little welder. You could probably find it cheaper used on craigslist. I bought it for my 65 mustang project. Never welded before but the Lincoln 180 was very easy to learn on.

Okay guys i have a wiring question i just bought the Millermatic 211 and I'm getting ready to wire up my 220v receptacle.

I thought most 220v welders had to be on a 50amp circuit but the specs on the miller say this.

230 V, 25 A, 60 Hz, 1-Phase
120 V, 20 A, 60 Hz, 1-Phase

Does this mean i can just change out my receptacle on my dryer 220v in my garage (not being used) and not add a whole new circuit? i think I'm reading this right here is a link to the welders specs. http://www.millerwelds.com/products/mig/product.php?model=M00245

 

im not much of a sparky but i would check what you have now and the circuit breaker . might have to change that out and get a plug for the welder

 

I know about the plug it's the circuit I'm worried about it's a 30amp circuit for a dryer and i thought you needed a 50amp for a 220v welder. and the manual for the miller is saying 25amp i just want to make sure I'm reading this right I already have enough electrical problems in my house right now I don't want them in the garage too

 

should be good with the 30amp . i run 15a dewalt grinders on 20a breakers all day no probs
