Removing TRD stickers and de-badging q's

What do I need? A hairdryer, rags, screwdriver, Goo Gone, and patience? Wanna take of the rear quarter panel decals and most of the badges on the tailgate. Anything you guys have done to make this easier or safer? Thanks.

I've been wanting to do this too but I'm worried that I'll be left with a silouette from the TRD decal on my 06 super white.

 

No screwdriver!!!!!!

What you need: Fish line, DW-40 (to remove the glue), a hair dryer, and a bug remover type sponge


That's what I used and it worked flawless.

Since you're using goo-gone remember to wax the spots after. The goo-gone will remove wax causing your paint to be unprotected from the sun/water/etc

(no I don't work for Turtle Wax!)

i had the dealership take off the tx pro stickers and 3/4 of the badges. the badges on the front doors i took off with a blow dryer and a plastic putty knife.

Well the sweltering heat made the TRD stickers come off sans any effort. Did a quick wax on where they were and they are good to go. Couldn't source any fishing line this eve (just moved) will try again tomorrow.

My thoughts with the screwdriver was to use towels and my hand to brace against the truck to pry the emblem up a little then pull off. Monofilament is much better, kind of saw it off I assume.

I'm an ex-detailer so I'll be sure and hit those spots I use the Goo Gone on with wax.

 

I made the dealer debadge mine when I bought it, told him I didn't want any stickers, or emblems on it. Later he called me, what about the 1 in the grill, I told him he could leave that one. Stupid e'ff then tried to persuade me to keep the lincense plate holder with their name on it on. I told him they may as well take it off, or I will as I pulled out my leatherman, I think they finally figured it out. Goo gone, heat gun and time if its too late for that or if you buy used.

 

helped my buddy debadge his '11 taco last night. we found it was really easy to have one of us with the fishing line and the other with the hairdryer. they hair dryer guy can start to CAREFULLY pull back the letters that you have already got the fishing line behind. just a little tip.

 

Go to your local body shop supplier, or paint retailer and get the 3M rubber wheel that fits in your drill for the excess sticky left from the emblems. Easiest way. Its like a round eraser.

 

The sun did the work for me. Nice and hot and I got the decals to peel of in less than a minute. Then just used Goo Gone to take care of the adhesive.

 

Dental Floss works good also.

FWIW ... when you pull the emblems off with the fishing line ... make sure that you do not pry (with back corner of emblem) scratching the paint.

Basically, get it in the hot sun, then slowly PULL (not pry) off the emblems. The sun worked fine in my case.

Like others said, a heat gun or hair dryer will help if the sun is not strong enough.

Personally, I love the smooth looks of a "debadged Tacoma".

Brought my new 11 Taco home this morning.....within a half hour all badges were gone.
I've done this on every vehicle I've owned. I use a heat gun (carefully) and a plastic scraper, like the ones to smooth out bondo, lifts the badges right up and then 3M Adhesive remover. I think the 3M works better than goo gone.

 

I started by using fishing line, but the line kept breaking. So, I used one of those rewards cards that look like credit cards and patiently sliced away behind the badges. Worked like a charm. A little goo gone and wax afterwards and I was good to go.
