Why did you change it so early? There's additives and stuff in the first oil. There's a reason they want you to run it for a regular oil interval before draining it.

It's just oil. Nothing special about it.

When I bought my truck, the salesman recommended halving the first oil change interval due to faster oil contamination from break-in.

There may be some long-life additives in the factory oil simply because the oil has to sit for a long time before a customer takes the vehicle. I bought my truck in May; the doorjam sticker has a January assembly date, which meant the truck sat for 4-5 months with minimal running.

First oil change should be max 500 miles. No factory cleans engines in laboratory conditions so its good to get first oil change quickly. Even for the sake of making sure that there is enough oil in the engine for normal driving. Plus first 500 miles generate most metal shavings so filter will get clogged sooner. Its precaution, I know some run until 5k but I would not.

    DIY for sure.

Jiffylube and places like that really only use 5W-20, no matter what your engine calls for.

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
I do it myself. I don't trust anybody except me working on my trucks.

That's why I never invite buddies over to help work on the truck..I just make them sit and watch :D DON'T TOUCH THE DUST OR ANYTHING ON IT :annoyed:

I also do it by myself because I buy bulk filters and oil from my mothers work..I drive 650 miles a week..so I do oil changes alot

i hate to admit it but i just take it to the dealer because i bought the truck brand new. It's only like 40 bucks for an oil change and a tire rotation and it goes into their computer so when i go to sell the truck all the records are there on-line which is nice. I do the oil changes on my other vehicles myself though
