09 Rear Spring TSB

Got word today that the dealer will perform the rear spring TSB on my 2009. Many thanks to all those that commented on the TSB. Also, thanks for posting the .pdf for the TSB. When I talked to the service manager about the problem of bottoming out with a light load, he acted like he had never heard of it before. Well, thanks to this website, I had a copy of the TSB. An incredulous "Where did you get this!?" was heard. Even though it as yet does not include the 2009 model year, Toyota will do the work. I am attaching the TSB .pdf for those who may have missed it.

Correct. Service manager first said that they could do nothing since the TSB did not include 09 model year. I pointed out that I had the exact same part numbers on my 2009 that the TSB upgrades. He did have to put a call into whomever at Toyota OK's this sort of thing. I also mentioned that I happened to know that Toyota was doing some 2009 model year Tacomas. I suspect that in time the TSB will be amended to include the 2009 model year.

 

Just drove home tonight w/my newly installed set. Love it. I will probably never load my truck to a point past the stockcapability, but I'll be damn, if it's meant for my truck I shall have at it Now for 1 more " of lift

Ok, so I have had the rear spring TSB performed on my 2009 doublecab.
Does not seem to ride any different than before, except for when hitting ruts or bumps. Springs are a little more stiff than before, just as they should be. Best thing is, no more hitting the stops. Thank you to all who prowl these boards and help out. I would not have even been aware of the TSB if not for TW. The dealer sure pretended as if they were unaware until I produced a copy of the TSB.
OK, so now I need to do something about the lower in the front thing I have going on. I have in my currently nicotine stained hands a set of ToyTec Coilovers to remedy this situation. I decided to wait until after the TSB was done so that I would know before hand where to set them at. It would seem from reading the posts, that they are somewhat difficult to adjust without removing them. So, guys with the ToyTecs....where do I set them now. All stock everywhere and now with the TSB springs in the back it looks as if the rear is raised about 1-2 inches. I neglected to get an exact measurement of before and after. I assume that the springs may settle a little after driving on them.

 

Where did you find out what part number your spring assembly is?

Thanks for the input. My '09 is eligible, which is strange because I took delivery on January 1st. You would think they would be proactive and update the trucks on the lot.

 

When you say it was bottoming out with a light load, just how much weight did you have in the bed? I have an '09 as well and have taken some measurements with a couple different loads in the bed, but I don't know just how much it will take before it bottoms out. For instance, with about 400 lbs directly over the rear axle, the bed drops 1.5" on my truck.

 

I have to go by with a load in the bed so they can replicate the problem and see if it "qualifies."

My one concern with that is I carry musical equipment, which I am not interested in leaving unattended in the bed.

 

It did not bottom out just sitting there. Only when I went over a bump or through a rut did the stops on the top of the spring assembly hit the chassis. Of course, now that does not happen.

 

Gotcha. Do you recall about how much weight was in the bed when that happened?
