Hood Scoop

So here's a sort of odd question that I'm sure somebody has asked before:
How easy do you guys think it would be to make the hood scoop on the TRD Sports functional?

Essentially there's just one piece that you have to remove to get a clear passage through the hood.

Is this a good idea?
I see no advantage to it but more air flowing over the engine...sorta...and purely for bragging rights.

But what do you guys think?

 

I saw a thread over on TN that a member actually did it i wouldnt do it but thats just me it can be done

 

Yeah you can make it to where its all open so air can get through. Only problem is rain or water from a car wash.

 

I would think that it would do more harm than good, dust, water would have a wide open entry.

 

Good thing I always wash my own car!

I was thinking of getting some of that really thin like fish mesh or filter type of stuff or something so it would collect the water instead of just letting it run straight through...thoughts?

personally i think it looks better w/o cause more humble and sleek not as flashy

Yea I know, it's more for bragging rights and to let the light in. The engine likes daylight too ya know...

It sounded like a cool idea...I guess I'll have to look more into it once I actually buy the truck.

 

Well yea...wouldn't you want it to force the stale air out of the engine bay?
Or do you mean never get any in there in the first place because it would be pushed out before it had a chance to do any good?

 

You could put some kind of filter in the opening once you get it cut out. K&N makes precleaners in all sorts of sizes for hot rods and cold air intakes. I was considering installing this just on the inside of my deckplate for the extra weather protection:

Just cut it, so you're working with a rectangular piece of material. Cut it to size, lightly spray paint it black, and you're good to go!

 

Exactly what I was thinking but then we came into an air pressure situation...so who knows...

 

I can see that as a possibility, but what is the harm of pushing air out of the engine bay? Seems like having an exhaust for hot air to scape the engine bay would allow the fan to suck more cold air from outside.

But then again, I'm a history major, so don't take my word for it.

 

So by those threads that I got from there, it would do nothing and just give you bragging rights.

It doesn't do good but it seems that it doesn't do bad either...only one way to tell. String test and a TRD Sport!
