Anyone have any knowledge on the Smittybuilt XRC 8,000lb winch? Amazon is listing it for $299 with free shipping. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I will be putting it on my new ARB :D

If this winch is a POS then help me figure which one would be a decent winch for the money.

seen them in action many times. great winch for the price. just make sure to waterproof the soleniod. i'm getting the comp version that has the external brake and synthetic line. if you can, i'd go that route. new synthitec line is usually about $200, but the comp (comes with the synthetic) is only $150 more on Amazon.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
I have one it's great the only thing I don't like is the free spool it's tight as hell. But I have an older one and they have changed the grease and the new one free spool much easier.

Just out of curiosity, how would one go about waterproofing said winch?
I mean the price is pretty darn good, so spending another hundred bucks or whatever on waterproofing it seems worth it to me.

it's not the winch that needs it, it's soleniod (box on top of most winches). a big tube of silicone will fix her right up

The waterproofing is easy if you know how to operate a tube of silicone

I had a smittybuilt xrc 8000lb winch it had a very powerful motor on it. But that was about the only thing good about it. It wouldnt free spool @ all even when it was new out of the box& the free spool knob breaks the roll pin that hold the knob in place. It breaks very easy.not a very good design. The other downfall is its bulky as hell. Its got to way in @ over 100lbs easily. That plus that heavy arb bumper. Your adding about 240+ lbs onthe front of that truck. Hope u have the heavy OME springs on there.

Hmmm... that's interesting that yours weighed that much. I have the XRC8 Comp. Winch, cables and solenoid weighed 60 lbs. I've read that the wire cable does add about 20 lbs but thats still only a total of 80 lbs with the steel winch cable.

Sorry i was off by 6lbs. The regular xrc8 weighs 94lbs. 100ft of 5/16 steel cable weighs 15lbs & the roll er fairlead weighs 12lbs. @ least warns roller fairlead does so subtract 27lbs by going with synthetic rope & aluminum fairlead. 67lbs is still heavy for a synthetic rope winch.
