I bought it in the US so I have the 3 leaf pack. I just think I need to make it more clear for the Canadian service guys here that there's a TSB for this since it's likely that they don't know about it since all the Canadian Tacomas they service have the 4 leaf pack

I wonder if they will perform a US TSB on a truck up here , that is an interesting situation

I have read these treads but never commented ... until today.

    I have a stock '10 2WD AC .... I love the ride ... not harsh at all.

Today I loaded 2 yards of hardwood mulch ... that's 4 good sized Bobcat bucket loads .... not sure how much it weighs but it quite a bit.

Drove about 2 miles through the neighborhood, not even thinking about what was in the bed.

When I got home I took a look and was pleased to see that it wasn't resting on the bump stops.

I took the wife's 2009 Taco in to the dealer here in Arlington, TX and mentioned all the suggested complaints: Sags more than a couple of inches when I have a medium load of camping stuff or towing. I was immediately told it was because I have a lift kit on it (2.5 spacer w/2" block in rear). I then mentioned the TSB and was told I'm lucky if they don't void my entire warranty because of the lift! They however did honor the TSB for the radio. Not very happy with the dealer!!! Going to look into the Firestone Ride-Rite air bags.

I completely agree with you that a lift does not void warranty! I've owned a 4WD vehicle since 1979, I know I'm showing my age, but I have had every one of my 4x4's lifted. I have never had a dealer try to tell me that it voided my warranty before. The Taco is my wife's truck, I have a 04 Tahoe that's lifted 6" , running 35's and re-geared with a locker, bumpers front and rear, and when I had to take it to the Chevy dealer for a warranty issue they didn't try to tell me that I had void my warranty by lifting it. Funny thing is that the company that sold and installed my lifts is the same company that lifts the pre-sold trucks for many of the dealers! Ok....I'm rambling!

The Tacoma radio was showing weird symbols on the display from time to time and if you tried to turn it off and on it would eject a CD with each button pushed. Sometimes it would just be a blank display while music was still playing. I don't know what the TSB number was, the service writer just said it was covered by one. My ticket doesn't show a TSB number on it.

i mean.. id like to listen to my radio.. but that sounds like a pretty entertaining defect. i just had the whole radio assembly replaced.. and the aux and fm did not get any louder.. or even half as loud as the cd.. i do believe its time to find another dealer.. for the rear leaf tsb without issue.. and maybe a radio that works?
    lets hope.

No it won't. The tsb is only good while the vehicle is under the Toyota warranty.

I missed out on my 05 Tacoma. I learned about the tsb after the warranty expired.

    Yeah, that's what I thought.

I'm guessing they won't do anything if I tell them I'm pretty sure it was a problem when the truck was built? :(

Would this TSB also apply to my 2011 double cab I4 prerunner? I bought mine from Toyota Mall of GA a few weeks ago.

Verify that your VIN is listed on the TSB to determine if your vehicle qualifies.

So I took it into 2 dealerships. At the first it sat in the parking lot for the entire day and they didn't even look at the vehicle. They were awaiting approval from the US to do warranty work on an imported vehicle (they should have done this before my appointment day...). So I took it to a different dealership because the first also wroth my phone number down wrong and picked me up 2 hours late...

The second dealership agreed that the problem existed, took pictures and sent their info to Toyota Canada.

    DENIED

what now? Now I'm starting to think any and all warranty work up here will be denied because I imported from US to save a few bucks.

Well what did they tell you was the reason for denial? If it's more than 3yrs 36K old, than that's the reason. If it's not, well then it's another reason entirely and deserves some phone calls.

I have 5000 miles on my 4 month old tacoma...

they said Toyota Canada does not have this as TSB that they include in their warranty. They said that the vehicle will sag very low and not drive very well when close to full load capacity.

I told them other people in the US have been getting this work done under warranty. I asked if I would have to get this work done in the the US. He said "yes"

    so much for transferable warranty...

Doubtful, but it depends. I bought my truck with less than 36K on it in January of this year. Drove it until a few weeks ago with nothing heavy in the bed. Put 1k of dirt in the back and wham! Rode like s***. Truck had 40K on by that point...I was a little worried. Took it in and complained about the ride, already knowing about the TSB. Called me the next day and told me they wouldn't cover it with my Platinum warranty because the springs weren't "broken." However, I bought my truck Certified, which came with the 12 month/ 12K mile comprehensive warranty.

When you read the language in the brochures included with the truck, and in the TSB, they say the fix is covered under the first 3 years/36K mile warranty for 'mechanical failure or manufacturers defect." the TCUV (Toyota Certified Used Vehicle) warranty that comes with every Certified truck uses the EXACT SAME WARRANTY. After a few phone calls to Toyota and the Dealership, they "agreed there was some confusing language" and did the TSB at no charge without acknoledging they messed up.

Just because the part isn't actually broken doesn't mean its not a mechanical failure of the part to work as designed. These trucks (depending on options, mine is the TRD OR DC) are designed to hold 1300 lbs in the bed. If the 3 leaf springs were designed to hold that weight w/o hitting the spacers, and they hit the spacers, especially with less weight, then the DON'T work as designed, and therefore its a mechanical failure of the part to work. End of story.

I also work writing up legal documents, so I have gotten savvier with my speech . Its all in how you present it.

PS-I notice no difference with the ride.

i gotta say, i just decided to let it be for a while and see how towing actually worked out. i learned more than a few very valuable things.. and i WILL be taking my truck to get the tsb done now.

ive never seen leaf springs make a frowny face ever in my life. i was honestly worried my truck wasnt going to make it the 650 mile trip from va beach to atlanta... but it did. i was pulling somewhere in the neighborhood of 4000lbs with a tongue weight just over 300.. is my best guess.. i could have loaded the trailer better.. but it was a rush job. i drove up, slept three hours, packed the truck, slept two hours and then drove back.

with just the empty 1800lb trailer averaging about 70-75mph i was getting about 14mph. these trucks are just terrible on gas over 60mph. i may never tow something this heavy again.. but its nice to know even with the terrible gas mileage the truck gave me zero issues. no crazy shifting, no difficulty braking, not even really much difficulty accelerating. she was definitely happy to be released from the trailer though. 10.8mph at its worst really sucks..

im a turd and didnt take any pictures either. the truck didnt even really sit like it was under load until you paid attention to the leaf springs that were just unbelievably stressed.

    to the dealer i go!

First dealership denied. Called Toyota and they told me that according to my vin my truck didn't qualify for the TSB. I went to another dealership and they did it. I didn't tell them anything about being denied or what Toyota told me. I don't understand why the run around and how dealerships can be so different.
