Ok Tacoma owners ... anyone have an 07 with shimmy problems ? as I start from a stop it shutters for a split second 0-5Mph .... and as I get to about 30Mph it shifts to overdrive and shutters to feel like a warped rim or I thought driveshaft Brought it to the dealer and they said they can't fix it ! they called in a toyota rep after balancing the tires a few times and re-alining the front end ! (14,500 Miles) so the toy Rep said change the tires to Bf Goodrich ... this took out most of the shake in the steering wheel at highway speeds but it still feels wrong like the rack is too sensitive and always need to correct the wheel as I drive ( Back and forth) but the vibration /shimmy is whats getting me .... I'm starting to Hate My brand New truck ! ...sucks ! .... so I'm going back to the dealer on Monday to see if maybe I can get a new rack and pinion and see if theres a fix for the tranny
if they tell me they can't fix it again you might hear about me on the T.V. NEWS ! ....... I can't accept that as I have a 4yr old in the truck daily and it doesn't feel safe to me ...did I mention I was a Mechanic for 4 years and a backyard mechanic all my life ...Pretty much Know what I'm talking about
Dealer is going to Hate me as I will be relentless in my cause ! I will be a thorn in their ASS !! .... I'll let you Know What the Outcome is .... Please if you have this Shimmy/ vibration in your 07 tacoma let me Know ....thanks From Boston ! GO SOX ( W.S.CHAMPS)Go Pat's (9and 0) and Cetics 6-0

This just started out of nowhere? Are you the original owner? I don't have that problem and mine is an 07.

Keep on em man, let us know what this one is all about.

You know - I have a slight shake in mine around 68-74 MPH (right where I cruise). The dealer had my truck for the last day doing the suspension TSB so they also looked at the shimmy. They replaced the front rotors, but no luck.

Then the senior technician gave me another explanation. He said that with the tall skinny tires and the aluminum wheels on my PreRunner that any imperfection in the wheel/tire would be felt in the cab. He suggested going to steel wheels and wider tires.

While my tires will definitely need to be upgraded as soon as possible, my rims look great and should perform without issue (in my opinion). I really don't want to shell out more money for something that I already have. We will see what happens when I get new tires. Maybe some classic chrome steelies are in order.

For now, I will have to put up with my vibration.

aknagcameltoe, your vibration sounds worse. It sounds more like a driveline issue. I agree with Viper-2 - stay on their back until they give you a ride without the vibrations.

    Cheers!

007, are you talking stock tires and rims? I still have the Grantek's and the aluminum rims also and mine is smooth as glass. Were they saying yours was a fluke or what? I suppose this is a flaw they cannot fix with weights and balancing.

Also, did this problem get worse over time, I know you have way more miles than me but your truck was bought in January.

Was it a slow problem or fairly quick to develop?

I do have different rims than yours (I like yours better).

No, it has always been there, but I brushed it off as out-of-balance rims/tires. It isn't getting any worse, and most of the time it is not noticeble. I am just extremely particular about my truck.

A word comes to mind... oh, yeah, ANAL.

Do you have any lift? I have a 3" AAL on mine, and it does the same thing. The resolution is to drop the center of the drivetrain. It is because it is at a larger angle, and dropping the center point helps it streighten out again.

My truck was smooth until about 12K miles ..... the dunlop gran tek tires are JUNK ...had them on mu 01 tundra and they went BALD at 10K Miles !
so I'm glad to have the Bf G's .... but I think that post was right I think it's a tranny problem or tranny mount as it down shifts it seems to give me that shake .... Pissed ! There is a Post on the internet about how Toyotas quality has gone way down and they are trying to live on the rep of yesteryear like the corrola commercial ( 300,000 ) miles ..... the good old days I call it !
as of today ford has the best quality rating .....I know ...FORD ??? but this is what it's come to !

I dont have any vibration at high speed but i have a very slight shudder at around 5-10mph. the best i can explain it is that it feels like i'm driving over some rough pavement. It only last about a second and is at very low speeds before the tranny shifts into 2nd. I am convinced the transmisson is fine, it feels like a drivetrain issue. I am not concerned about it. It took me about 3 days to realize it was actually there and even then it took another day to determine it wasnt rough pavement. The vibration in my truck is not very noticable at all but it is there. So far nobody that has ridden with me or driven the truck has noticed. PM pb2themax he seems to have some insight and experience with this issue. he actually posted a video of someones drivetrain while it was moving to see the vibration.

I gotta take issue with the stupid crap like this. Everyone goes way too far with this kind of stuff. Yes, the Grandteks wear out quick...but not at 10,000 miles no way.

Next, Ford is NOT higher quality than Toyota dude. 2 cars previously recommended from Toyota (With only a 6 speed trim and a 4X4 trim) are not recommended anymore. But Toyota makes the most cars and this is still small.

Ford went up slightly but according to KBB out of the bottom 10 resale value cars 8 are still American companies/subcompanies and guess what? One is Ford.

Say what you want about toyota, they are the big fish now and they don't need me to defend them.

Please remember where you are. On a Tacoma forum, senseless comments about Toyota or Tacomas must be backed up with fact. They will not be taken kindly either way, but in that case you may earn some respect.:spy: Without reliable facts I reserve the right to be rude to anyone who bashes my truck or Toyota.

ND has taught me well. :drunk:

I have 11K miles on my truck now and the vibration hasn't changed any since i bought it... at least not noticabley. I think you and i are experiencing the exact same thing just to different degree's. Here is a link to a video that pb2themax posted. some guy mounted a camera under his truck to catch the notorious driveshaft in action. After watching this vid it seems like the vibratin is caused by the carrier bearing.

Dont thank me thank pb2themax , he is the one that originally posted the vid. I'm not sure where he got it though. keep us updated, i'd be interested to know how it turns out. My vibration isn't bad enough or noticable enough to pursue but if it ever gets that way i'd like to know how you handled the situation. Good luck

    No, I wasn't stupid enough to buy a vehicle I hated...jackass.

GET A LIFE go out to a bar, football game ,Hockey game, somewhere where you get away from your screen !

A Life? hahahaha! Well, I hate Hockey, I get on the computer about 1 hour per day and Football is not really for me.

anyway here in Boston we are fortunate to be surrounded by Sports and Bars, and Nightlife "Title Town" as it's Known .... as for the Gran trek tires Yeah they did wear out at 10K ....

I'm sure they did, did you rotate them? I believe you now because you said it more stern than before and sounded more serious.

think about it Now they put them on the tacoma ....a much lighter truck .... they should Not have been on a tundra in the 1st place ! too heavy of a truck for those tires. and as for Knowing what I'm talking about ? this is my 4th toyota vehicle that I've owned and I am also a former Mechanic by trade ......

    Now a prick.

as for proof of the quality well I had an article from an automotive mag. sent to me via E-mail from a MECHANIC friend of mine who I was defending toyota to back in Aug. 07 because I disagreed with him when he told me ... then he sent me the article and I had read it for myself. Are you serious? Oh my...guys like you get their asses killed man. You are one of those tough guys who feels mean behind your computer. You are most likely very short (short guys talk like you, now go ahead and tell me how you are 6'+) and very gay.

We will of course never meet and you know it. That is why you went this far, you know that it would be very stupid to threaten someone you didn't know or have never seen with what you did here if there were even a possibility you would.

You have no idea if I am capable of beating your ass or not. And you know that it makes you feel tough that you will never know. You can now fantasize that somehow you can beat up a computer image you have in your tiny little head (both of them).

You would never in a million years talk like that to someone in person. Even you coudln't be that stupid and you would be way too scared.

By the way, screw off. :D

Well I don't have a daughter but I do have a wife. And, I'm sorry you see that in what I said. I am sick of people paying thousands for a new vehicle and then stating the same old BS over and over again after they buy it. We all know about the stupid stuff he said, didn't he do research on it? Also, didn't you know the tires Toyota put on beforehand?

So yeah I know it's just a truck. if it was more than that I wouldn't be on the computer talking to you about it.

I see you have 3 posts, which means you probably didn't look up the past threads about tires or whatever thing you're upset about. Neither did the other guy (Cameltoe...nice title...jerk) with 7 posts. He complained about something without looking it up on the major Tacoma sites to see that others have already dealt with this. Stop complaining about OLD stuff is what I was and still am trying to say! If you don't like it DO something about it.

This may surprise you but most people have no issues with their trucks. But some (a small percentage) do. Now that's cool, but how did a small shimmy (the subject of this post) turn into a gigantic rant on Toyota??? Every model is different as for reliability. Go back and read his post...

Many people state a problem and want help with it. This guy wanted to complain about Toyota and it's just stupid.
