Cutting spending doesn't address your debt , only reduces how much you add to it

 

It hurts the economy. But from what I've heard, theyre looking at a 1% up....

From what I've heard, the dems arent pushing for spending cuts as much as raising taxes...

raising the sales tax doesnt hurt the economy. in the province i live in we pay up to 10% sales tax.

 

But with enough cuts, can't we turn that into a negative number and slowly but surely reduce the debt itself?

 

ya its only 55 trillion......

 

I think half of the battle is convincing Americans that paying slightly higher taxes is not " Un-American "

 

But raising it in the middle of a recession is an option of last-resort

its not like your about to default on your loans or anything.

 

I'm just saying there's other options to just jumping to raised taxes. Unemployment's already skyrocketing along with business growth.

Edit: business's growth is doing the exact opposite of skyrocketing.

Maybe so. "Higher taxes" is relative. There's nothing wrong with a government raising taxes to increase revenue when necessary. Taxes are necessary for governments to funtion, they're not evil.

It's just that nothing is being done to combat the actual problem of excessive spending at this moment and time. Raising taxes just covers it up until the next time the politicians want to raise the debt ceiling...
