Replacing the Air Filter, What do you recommend?

    Stopping by Advance Auto when i get off of work to get me a new airfilter for my truck. It's an 08 and is getting ready to roll over 40,000 Miles. Whats something that you all have experienced. Would like to get the whole intake kit but believe i am just going to replace the filter.

    Yea, I'd just get an oem replacement. Nothing wrong with it.

    Don't think the K&N will maybe upgrade my MPG a tad or do just the same as the OEM ?

    I put a TRD in mine only because I got a deal on it, no noticable changes in sound, power, mpg, etc. One could argue that some are better filters but the stock ones work just fine.

    But... if your heart is set on aftermarket, I'd go with TRD or AFE.

    I have not seen any dust past my AFE dry filter? Maybe the 4cyl filter fitment is different then the 6cyl? So far, I do not miss a oil type filter at all. :cool:

    I had dust past the filter also after some dirt roads,Stock box with AFE pro dry. Got a K&N all is good no more dust.

    Same here. Checked my AFE Pro Dry filter and found it wasnt sealing correctly with the stock filter box and noticed some dust inside past the filter. Went back to the stock filter. Anyone want to buy a used AFE?

    All other things being equal, perhaps. However, oiled gauze filters filter more poorly than any dry filter available.

    A lightly oiled oem will certainly filter better than a dry oem. :cheers:

    And drag racing vehicles have no filter.......flow vs. longevity. After the race, the motor is re built, or inspected/tested before the next one. Many of the vehicles I have been around that raced off road, ran K&N type filters, with no oil. Sure they didnt filter as good, but the oil didnt attract the dust, and gum up the filter. Whats 1000 miles to an engine thats gonna be rebuilt soon after? As long as the larger debris is kept out, more flow, the better....Not a good thing on a vehicle expected to last for many years.

    And, FWIW, Off road working vehicles use dry filters. Many use a 2 filter design, with a Primary, and secondary filter......and they are very large.
