Driest tonneau?

New twist on a tonneau thread... not looking for pics or how it looks.
Looking for the driest tonneau for the Tacoma that allows one to keep the utility rails. Very much like the easy on/easy off designs found in the trifold types security is not a huge concern. I need to stay away from the one piecers for the on/off concerns mentioned above.

Xtang trifecta folding cover. I've had very little water leak. Very little meaning a few drops in the bed coming from the corner near the cab. You can order vinyl or canvas. Mines vinyl

 

Rugged Cover Trifold.....no drilling and no mounting. easy on easy off. i get little to no water.....i even keep my gym bag in there during any rain storm and its completely dry

 

If it's installed properly and fits like it should....I'm pretty sure they're all good at keeping water out.

I have an Advantage Torza top tri-fold (soft tonneau). No water.

 

Another for the Extang Trifecta. I drove through the heaviest rain one could imagine with a bed full of luggage on a several hundred mile trip. The rain never let up. It was bone dry in there.

It uses the rail system with 4 brackets, plus you can use the factory cleats in the rail too since it sits above those.

i have the access cover and i get water all the time.mine bolts in between the bed and the clamp bar.

 

That's pretty dry... The drips on the side are form water sneaking under the side seal/between the hinge gaps then hitting the accessory rail then dripping down. How dry does the tailgate stay?

 

Actually that's just a random picture I took to show how the rail system remains usable. Have to take my word on the dryness.

 

looking at everyone's pics it looks like the advantage tops corners seem less prone to getting dogeared the way some of the trifecta tops do.
What are the silver blocks in the rails of the advantage pics.. are they for the clamping system?

 

Driest top? It isn't the Extang Solid Fold. I could grow tomato plants in my bed and not have to bother watering them.

 

Not sure if you saw these picts or not....There are 4 mounting points on mine (Advantage Torza Top Tri-fold/soft)
This is one of the rear clamps. The pin is a safety to prevent the clamp from coming un-done. These pins are only on the back (nearest cab) clamps.

Picture of the clamp - it's a part of the tonneau cover. The alluminum block pieces stay inside the channels of your bed.

 

I bought an Extang Trifecta in March 2007 and am overall very happy with the purchase & would buy another one.

It stays dry except when I wash it through a touchless car wash, something about high pressure water spraying sidways I'm sure.

I do like the tri-fold concept. Its a pretty versatile cover & its so darn easy fold up & take on and off which I do frequently. This cover has held up well for how I use it.

 

Janster: Thanks... looks like a well engineered latch. are there set screws to keep the blocks from sliding around in the utility rails when the cover is off?

 

I had good luck with my access after i sealed my bedcaps. I had it installed and went back where i got it kinda upset and the guy there showed me the actual problem. The cover it self did not leak, the water actually was coming in the front corners under the bedcap. My brother in law had the same issue with a fiberglass cap on his taco. I think the extang aviods this becasue it looks like it sits over that area where the access sits inbetween the rails. From what the guy that sold it to me told me, it is somewhat of a known "problem" but the guy that installed it was a new guy so he didnt know to seal the cap. All they did was put a little of that black butyl in the corners, and im dry as can be now! I love the rollup! And the guy gave me a $25 gift certificate for the headache!

 

I didn't actually install it - but I know there aren't any set screws at all.

They really don't slide around much at all.

The one side, they're actually tighter along the rail and stay in place.

 

I am installing the A.R.E LSX model next week. I will report back after it gets a dousing.

 

Sounds like they had to lift the plastic trim on the bed side caps and seal the leading (cab) end? Is that correct?
