Brake pads

Okie dokie, it's time for her first set of brake pads, I don't know what pads were on it before i got it, but they lasted a helluva lot longer than i thought they would, what are u guys running and why (price, lifespan etc)

 

Get a good set of ceramic pads, or OEM.

 

Yeah I know ceramics are the way to go usually on my other cars, any brands out there you mod nuts dig?

 

I have had very good luck with Wagner. About 70.00 a set.

 

Nice, yeah I'm not gonna ask a zillion questions about brake pads, I know semi metallics a garbage and ceramics are supposed to take heat better and last longer

 

I just bought the duralast gold ceramics. I think they were $60 from autozone. Comes with the grease and clips. Haven't put them on yet but this will be my first time replacing them. Got almost 70k miles out of the originals.

 

I got 74K outta mine and I was amazed

 

Sometimes I stop hard and quick coming up to lights and stopsigns. But for the most part I am pretty easy on them.

 

If your wanting brake that will stop better, will take some abuse and wear well, I would recommend going to Performance Friction (part # 0976.02 for your Tacoma)) carbon metalics. I have installed many sets of their pads on my vehicles and my customers vehicles. Performance cars to diesel pick-ups that do a lot of towing, these are one of the best I've run. They should run about $45-65 depending where you find them.
Also for more brake performance and life the Reactive One brake rotors (Napa #RA880161 about $190 ea.) Make a big difference in pedal feel and stopping power. They are a bit different than your traditional slotted/cross drilled rotors. They use what they call cool track venting grooves. This combo works very well for stopping power and brake life, no dusting or noise. If you don't want to spend the $ on rotors the pads work well with the oe rotors, just make sure you have them machined so the pads will seat properly.

dude I haven't changed my breaks yet! I bought my truck used with 60k miles on it and I now have around 117k...I'm sure the dealer put new brakes on the truck before selling it but i'm not sure, if they didn't thats pretty damn impressive haha! But they are starting to squeak a little. I though it might just be dust and what not but I pressure washed the entire wheel well and that sound remains. I'll probably end up replacing em with OEM pads from Toyota or Hawk Ceramics

 

Yes, have your rotors machined to tru them up and the carbon metalics need that machined surface to seat properly.

 

That wouldn't be unusual to see a set go that many miles, especially with a manual trans. Its all about driving habits. I've got customers with 3/4 ton diesels with 150k on them that are still running original brakes & clutches.

 

My brother is digging his "black Magic" pads with centric rotors. look into them they will probably make a set for our toyotas. I might get these when I replace mine, if I'm still pulling his Jeep.

 

Hmm, never heard of machining the pads too but it makes a lot of sense, I've always thought the brakes on these trucks could be better especially considering their weight. I would love to put some vented rotors on the truck, but your suggestion to machine first sounds like a happy medium. Chances are that when I wear out the next set, I will probably go with vented discs if not bigger brakes altogether.

 

I just put on Hawk LTS pads. Same performance as stock. I'm happy. They were about $70 from Autoanything.com.

 

I just went with oem stuff. Gonna change them out today or tomorrow. Got new pad, rotors, and spark plugs for $240.
