Got Hit at Gas Station

Pulled into a gas station with my 6-month old DC 4WD Tacoma and was fueling up, when some clown backed right into the pass. side of my front end. He wasn't looking and was backing up pretty fast. Crushed the bumper pretty bad. Headlight is pulled down as well as the right fender. The wet spot on the ground was already there.
I know it doesn't look that bad in the pic, but that's it for me with this truck. I will be selling it as soon as it comes out of the body shop.

Are you getting rid of the truck just because of this or are you not happy with other things on the truck if you don't mind me asking? Just curious since the trucks only 6 months old

I'd be pissed too if that happened but no way in hell I'd sell it. First of all, you'll lose money. Secondly, why sell?!? It can't be because some idiot backed into it. Are you just not happy with it?

Probably a little of both. This guy hit me hard. I'm surprised it wasn't worse. I was actually pumping gas in it when it happened and the whole truck moved over when he hit me. At least the air bags didn't go off. If the truck had been running, they probably would have.
This is my every day work truck and I work in south Texas laying pipeline and drilling for oil. I practically live in this truck. Its pretty hot here and I'm on my 3rd A/C compressor already and they don't know why its eating them. I hate the position of the brake pedal (small and too close to the gas pedal). I could use a little more room for my work stuff, etc. None of these things by themselves is enough to make me unload it, but combined with this mess, I've just about had it. My wife wants me to get it fixed and continue to wear it out on the job rather than buy another new truck since I just bought a new SRT-8 Challenger 3 weeks ago and we both really don't want to buy another vehicle right now.....I'm probably just more pissed off than rational at this point. What's an ARB???

 

ARB is a maker of fine aftermarket steel bumpers.

 

3 A/C units?? Wow.

But for your needs, sounds like an f-150 is more for you. I like them, my pops has on 06 that is loaded and I freaking love that thing.

Heck yeah, get a detailed estimate and then go through (the other guy's) insurance. As long as there's no frame damage you should be just fine. The dealership quote will probably be enough to pay for the ARB, better shocks and coils to support it.

 

Well that makes sense then. I can see how all of that would add up. If I were using my truck for a work truck all day every day, I would probably have a full size. Just some more room and power. By the way, I'm jealous of that challenger haha

 

To be honest, I've just not taken much time to really research anything, or even do much, to this truck. I bought it, paid outright cash for it, put some sunshade visors on it, and an Access bed cover to keep the dust out. I give a dose of Amsoil/filters etc. when due...and that's it. The reason I picked the Tacoma was that it was narrower, lighter and can easily get in places my bigger truck just could never get into. Even with street tires and no traction mods whatsoever, this thing is a frickin' little beast when it gets off-road and its only a Sports model. I've gotten thru places that our 1-ton work trucks just get bogged down deep in and they end up with one of our Trac-hoes having to pull em out. My Tacoma has never had to be pulled out of anything....so far...knock on wood. So I'm back home this weekend, it's raining and I'm sitting here contemplating my options.
One thing for sure: I'm gonna end up driving my old 1-ton diesel 2WD truck until my Tacoma gets fixed. Let em run into the front of this beast:

 

392 Hemi, 6-speed, 470hp. Gets better mileage than my Tacoma (not much better though)...LOL. I suppose this is the wrong forum to post a pic of this thing but I guess the mods will delete whatever they feel is needed.

Sucks about the damage. I don't know why Toyota can't fix the A/C problem for you. I bought a Tundra and it is big, so I know what you mean with full- size p/u's. I kept the Tacoma to drive around town because it's easier to find parking spots, and it's paid for. Instead of driving the big "D", tell them you need a work truck and try the Tundra. Insurance should cover it.

 

Yeah...thats what my wife says. However, I sure do like the looks of that ARB setup on 4X4Fink's truck. Not sure what other mods, other than shocks/coils would be needed to do something like that but I like it! With me, its not so much the money as it is finding the time to get that kind of stuff done.

 

This last compressor seems to be holding up better than the original and its replacement...although a little noisy which has me concerned. The original one let go after just 5k miles. They replaced it and either overfilled the system or didn't change the dryer when they swapped it out...not sure, but the 2nd one lasted about a month. The one on there now will freeze ya out even on a 105 degree day, but I don't like that little noise its making. IF it lets go, it will be back there again.

 

Can't live w/o it. Hopefully that's resolved. Good luck with the repairs, etc.
