Louisiana was actually split quite early on in the war (1862). There was a Union section in addition to a Confederate section with two governors for a time. But you can't put much stock in the opinions of Canadians who know even less about some of their history than stupid Americans who got their Grade 7.

At this point, it's all political posturing. Personally, I'd rather there be a holistic approach where there is a discussion about what we really spend our money on and how it can be more rationally financed. Not likely to happen when buying votes is all that matters. The debt ceiling is going to be raised. the Republicants aren't going to let SS or military payments go unmade, and Obama is not going to veto it just because he didn't get his way.
There is no national sales tax. US revenue comes from individual income taxes (~46%), corporate income taxes (~12%), payroll taxes (~36%), and excise taxes (3%) (the remainder is non-classified revenues which include things like use fees).

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.

our tax revenues are lower than they have been for quite some time.

meanwhile, salaries of our richest citizens are growing at an unprecedented rate.

personally, I don't have a problem with a few percentage points increase, just don't ask people making more than 250k a year for 3%...they will have to close all their businesses and no one will have a job.

That's roughly what we pay in my area when state and parish (county) sales taxes are taken into account. Whether it will hurt the economy is far from that simple though.

The one in California doesn't really count as a full-fledged theme park.

Well, it probably got there as the result of an American hot dog factory explosion. SO, American. All hot dogs are American.

hotdogs could have easily been started in china, seems like they are mixing dog with everything, they just blamed it on the germans or americans just to cover up...
speaking of, I haven't seen my cat for a while. last time we saw her she was in the car when we went and ate chinese a month or so...
