168xxx miles rear locker. has a different colored bed so im weary. 5 speed. 4x4. It is only 4000 because they are in bad financial need. Could the benefits beat the cost? what about getting a new bed or painting it and then reselling if it checks out?

    Thanks.

If it has a different bed there is a good chance it has been in an accident. Maybe the frame is bent? Otherwise you usually can't find a Tacoma for anywhere near that price.

my thoughts too. Even if at that price leaves alot of room to moddify / fix or even resell at a profit.

I talked him down from 5300 to 4000 weary on that bed though...

It has the locker but when I looked it up on Carfax (Basic check) the free one it listed it as Xtra Cab sr5 so I couldn't tell you.

if the frame is not bent i say go for it. sometimes when people actually use their trucks as a truck the bed gets banged up pretty bad from loading and unloading stuff into it. maybe thats the case with this one and thats why they replaced it. check the carfax on it too.

As far as reselling for profit, is there really much room for any profit even at that price? If you buy it for $4,000, then put in a couple grand for paint and fixing things, that puts you at $6,000. Are people buying 99's with 170k for much more than $6,000?

The '98-'00 don't usually sell for terribly much, ESPECIALLY with that sorta mileage. The '01-'04 are the years that seem to hold their price so incredibly well (not really sure what people see in those years that they don't in other years, but its preference).

Last option. I have a guy who came to me offering his 1997 tacoma with 220k he is the original owner and is considering getting a new one but is having separation issues. He seems to have maintained it very well and has even emailed service records. it doesnt have the locker and he was asking 5500. I was thinking alot less before he told me the price but what do you experts think?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
For whatever it's worth I sold my 1984 ****** truck with the same mileage at 10 years old (1994) for $75 (I know, it was a long time ago) but still I'm amazed people are selling AND BUYING for this kind of stupid money nowadays that I bought my 84 new. With all due respect I wouldn't offer him more than $1,800 and I still think you're getting screwed.

What do you mean. I think I lost the main point when you switched subjects. Isn't 3 less then book value on that. Two posts up was 12 k for a '99

I'm just saying it's alot (of your money) for a high mileage vehicle

My last vehicle I bought was a 1993 Nissan Hardbody Reg Cab 2.4 4x4 with 133,000 miles. I paid $400 for it and drove it for 5 years with ZERO problems.

If the truck looks good, runs well and you're comfortable with everything, buy it.

I'd compare the two and make a decision

Option 1) Locker, $1500 cheaper than option 2, has locker

Option 2) 1 owner with excellent service records, actual bed that came with vehicle

To me, I'd sacrifice a locker and 50k miles and pay $1,500 more for a vehicle I knew was a safe bet. I don't think $5,500 is absurd for the second vehicle you posted.
