Just bought '02 Tacoma

Hello-

Just bought an '02 ex-cab TRD off-road. Only 43K. Records indicate frame was swapped in '09.

I am happy with the truck but concerned about the amount of rust underneath.

To add to my troubles, I know nothing about cars - so I plan on coming here with lots of stupid questions.

My first concern is where the spare tire attaches to the truck - the bolt that runs through the middle (and looks like it holds the tire on) is rusted until it is unrecognizable - is this a safety concern and should I just tear the whole thing out? Also - the rear bumper looks like new from the outside, but is crumbling from the inside.

Any pointers or advice would be great.

I will search for the "how to post pics" thread and post some rusty pics soon.

Welcome, Your is Mass? So much salt on roads over there structural damage seems to occur alot. Forget the search just click on the link right under the banner that says tacoma photos, the menu will drop down and a link to "how to post pics" is in there.
