Problem after new clutch install

Im posting for a buddy of mine, he put in a new LCEngineering clutch on his Tacoma, its an 08 2.7. He used the bolts to pull the tranny the last 1/4 inch or so. I drove the truck and it drives and shifts great, but it made a loud "gear or bearing grinding noise" when accelerating and under load in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The clutch had a strong burning smell but didnt seem to slip. We pulled the trans and clutch, checked clutch, re installed, everything good to go. Truck shifts and drives fine, burning smell is gone, still grinding in 4th when on the gas but much quieter, deffinitley improved. I noticed his clutch master cylinder is leaking, it started after the clutch install. Would this cause the grinding? The clutch pedal might need adjusting too. He is using Valvoline 75-90 synthetic since 30,000, has 80,000 now. Just to clarify a bit, the noise is now only in 4th gear when on the gas and under load, also its not when shifting, just when accelerating

 

Huh thays amazing! So my transmission in fact was not bad it was the damn clutch! Thank you so much for posting this! I have this problem in the new transmission but only in 5th under load now! Thank you so much for posting this! I am going to have yo call LC up and have a chat with them!

Yeah thats weird, I posted this on a couple of other forums and everyone said the transmision was bad. But I was thinking how can a trans go from good to bad in the time it takes to do a clutch job? I dont think its that fragile.

 

Called them and the sales guys going to talk to the tech. He thinks improper install...OP have you called them yet?

 

I relayed this info to my friend who owns the truck, its on him what he wants to do. He did order an oem clutch from Toyota, so when its installed well see what happens

 

Can you please keep us informed. LC said its not the clutch and something transmission related or improper install.

 

That should have been a red flag something was wrong.... In all my years doing shit like this if all is properly lined up they will slide in all the way. Sounds like a toasted input shaft bearing, or worse.

 

Ok we replaced the clutch with an OEM Toyota clutch set and the problem seems to be solved. Drove the truck about 50 miles total freeway and city driving, no noise or trouble what so ever. So take this info as you want to, but it seems to be fixed.

 

Are you going to call them and return it? Tell them what happened and how the problem was fixed?

 

I have no idea what he plans to do about it, but Im fairly positive that if he calls them, they'll tell him to pound sand.

Mine does the same thing. I was able to get the trans installed without using the bolts to draw it in.
It makes a grinding/bearing noise. It's most distinct in 4th at 45 mph. Shifts like crap now.
I'm sending the gear lube in to get analyzed, to see if it's doing any damage.

 

did anyone every figure out why the lce clutch made the noise? i just installed the lce pro series in my 00 2.4 tacoma and its doing the same thing in 5th gear. ive reinstalled the thing 3 times and each time i get the noise in 5th under load. it didn't do this before the new clutch.
