Thats because A&M was originally founded as The University of Texas and it was planned to have the main campus in Austin, but the College Station campus became so popular it gained its independents. Thats how the rivalry got started.

I don't mean to fuel the fire here but felt like chiming in. I have been a UGA fan since I was old enough to know what college football was. I grew up in the Atlanta area and pulled for all my home teams, (including GA Tech). You could say I don't really have any ties to the school I guess, but I have been a fan for lets see, 32-34 years now. Does this not make me a fan? I do know people that go to school there and have some distant family that went there. I really don't see where any of this is relevant but what ever. I have even gotten crap from UGA alumni about this same thing. They act like because they went to school there they are a bigger fan. But yet I have been pulling for the team since before some of them were even born, I just think it's a stupid argument. I mean don't you want as many to back the team as possible?

The big thing with me is I hate bandwagon fans! As far as the "side walk" comment about Bama, I don't see it. I do however see a lot of bandwagon fans for the Gators. I have been around plenty of them and got ragged on about my team while they had no ties to UF. I have asked some of them how they come to be a fan and they have admitted "oh I just like them because they were on top". Have they ever lived in FL.? No. I just cant stand when someone rags on me when they only pick a team because they are winning and when it turns the other way and I throw it back at them they act like they could care less. Dish it but cant take it? The bottom line is pick your team for whatever reason you like them and stand behind them! I see people all the time jump from team to team just so they can look good?

BTW I am a Braves fan too. I'm not a huge Nascar fan but do watch from time to time. Don't necessarily have a favorite driver.

My favorite team outside of Mississippi State is Virginia Tech.

Heres my tie to the team:

When I play NCAA football on xbox, I love having a fast quarterback. Ever since Mike Vick has been in college, the team I played with was VT because they always have fast qbs. (mississippi state always sucks, except for this year)

So now, I pull for them in real life and I guess you could call them one of my favorite teams.

Root for whomever the hell you want to, but stay that way. A buddy of mine went to FSU and his wife is a gator. They take turns flying the other team's flag in front of the house for a year after they meet in November. their allegiances dont change

The fans i cant stand are the people who are, for example Bama fans, but From FL whose daddy went to clemson but they liked bear bryant but they also root for LSU and the rest of the SEC and they like oregon's colors so they root for them too and USC usually wins a lot, so they like USC but jumped off the bandwagon when they got probation. They like michigan too because of the tradition but dont watch much of them anymore and for basketball, its completely different. but Now that Bama's back, they cheer for bama! Roll tide! 13 National titles! woo!!!

I root for 1.5 schools. i went to OSU, so I cheer for the bucks in everything. my dad went to UConn, so I follow their football and basketball team and will usually pull for them

 

Im not mad. I laugh as I type. I started this thread this season just like every other season. I just like to talk shit about poor aggie. Dont take anything typed on this thread serious. Its just good ol fashioned shit talking of the highest order.

 

Haha, I don't care one way or the other, I have two teams and occasionaly three with florida if I am visiting family.

 

My dad is a Bama fan from florida, my grandfather was too... because of the Bear...

 

Dude, you're right about Gator fans. FL is split in loyalty about 20% gators, 20% FSU and 15% miami with the rest rooting for whoever is better at the time. I can remember a whole hell of a lot more FSU fans around in the late 90s than I can now.

 

Just an example man, you can interchange all the schools/locations. i know people who follow the best of a 3-5 team rotation and its funny. Seems like a different season they have a new favorite team
