My knee bothers me every year around Octobere or so; when it starts getting cold. It's been like that ever since junior high. It sucked because it would start bothering me right around basketball season (probably the cause of the issue.)

I got a cortisone shot in it once. The needle was the size of a straw and it hurt like hell and didn't help much at all so I never went back to the doctor when it started hurting again the following year. Usually only hurts me for a few weeks anyway and then goes away. Biggest issue is that it gets really tight and feels like it's swollen and when I keep it bent for a while it will ache real bad. I have to be able to straighten it out frequently.

I've had pain in my groin for a few years. Not sure what the hell it is either because the Dr. found nothing wrong. I've done a pretty good job basically trying to ignore it. It acts up when the weather changes though. Some days I can't do anything.

I see you are in California? You might ask you doc about medical cannabis, I know a few people who have chronic pain, and were addicted for years to the opium drugs the docs push, and now have little to no pain with the help of marijuana. Also some find that growing there own medicine helps them to relax, and release stress.

My great-grandfather had RA so bad that he had to wear braces on his legs and use crutches to walk... He worked every day of his life on his farm until he passed at 97 years-old, and he never complained a bit, so I kinda look at him as a bit of an inspiration when it comes to dealing with chronic pain... you can't let it keep you from doing what makes you happy.

I had a compression fracture of my L1 vertebrae 5 or 6 years ago. My lower back was in constant pain for a couple of years, had trouble getting out of bed, chronic sciatica issues, etc. I decided the only thing that was going to help was really strengthening my back. Hit the gym really hard and gradually, the pain went away. It's pretty rare that my back bothers me at all now, though it does get stiff when the weather gets bad.

Same kinda thing with my shoulder. Had a small rotator cuff tear, and since I'm no professional athlete or anything, shoulder surgery didn't make sense. Hit the gym, really concentrated on strengthening my shoulders, and eventually that went away too.

Currently, within the last month or so, I'm dealing with some knee pain. I think I've got a small meniscal tear. I'm not going to deal with it now in the middle of ski season, but maybe I'll get it scoped in April/May. For now though, I take about 1000mg of ibuprofen when I go hiking/skiing/snowboarding, and that seems to work.

i've had pain in my left knee since i hit puberty. the doctor called it osgoodslaughter's (i know i spelled that wrong) disease. it's where the bones grow faster than the cartilage or the cartilage grows faster than the bone, i cant remember. anyway, it hurt really bad when i was younger but then got better, but now that i'm aging its acting up again. i'm thinking about trying some herbal remidies like glucosamine and condroiten (sp). i also have a bad wrist. i did some nerve damage to my left wrist riding BMX when i was in high school. i've been told the only cure for that is surgery but i dont want to do that

Surgery is usually the only cure. I dealt with the same for 15 years (herniated disc), finally had surgery in 9/05 and have been great ever since. It progressively got worse for me, though, to the point I was out of work about a week every month. I'll probably need it fused in another 10 years but in the meantime, there isn't a thing I can't do.

Get that shit fixed, ERdept. Chronic pain is no fun to deal with and makes your life less than what it should be.

WOW, you're a young guy too!

I always worried that because I had pain when I was young, what it would be like when I'm older. Now I know.:(

I was referred to an Ortho and settled on one I like.

I have NO lateral meniscus and it's bone on bone, then a torn medial an Osteo Arthritis and a cyst in the bone.

He and the pain guy injected long acting pain killer, lidocaine, a steroid and the synvisc.

Nothing lasts. I had 3 arthros by two different docs and one open.

No one will do a replacement because I'm too "young". They say at 42, you'll have to get a redo at 50. The knee can only go through a certain amount of replacements so the plan is to put it off till absolutely necessary (I can't walk) and go to pain management.

I'm seriously considering it. Always thought it was for weak people.

But now I'm reconsidering it. As they say several hundred thousand deaths from alcohol, prescription drugs, narcotics.

    No deaths from MJ.

Anyway, I did jokingly say to my doc to cut off the leg. Then I'd get a fake one and never have to deal with pain or replacements.

But he said, I may have phantom limb pain.

yup...im one of those guys who can usually sit in the chair and predict the weather...and im 26

it hasnt gotten any worse since i hurt my knees...and theres not a lot that can be done as my pain is triggered by air pressure changes...

i pretty much just put a good brace on and deal with it
