Yea Merrell's are notorious for it. It's a shame too, cause they look pretty awesome.

I've owned 4 or 5 pairs of Moabs over the years and never had a problem. Are you speaking more about the leather boots (like Wilderness Canyon)?

His weren't Merrels though, he just left them by the fire too long and had to reattach them by putting them back by the fire and letting them set.

I have the Merrell Chameleon 3 Ventilator, and really have no complaints. I treat them like sh*t too, don't take care of them at all. They shrunk a little bit when I was tredging the waters of Minnesota. But it was my fault (too close to fire, too much sun), they have since stretched back to their original size. the soles aren't separating at all.

Have you ever tried to send them back?

Heatgun + boot + time for boot to sit = should be good to go. For your REI problem if you still have the receit they should let you return it and swap out.

REI's great for returning stuff--you don't need the receipt if you have the member number you bought it with--I love that.

For the battery life and the features I go with the 62st ( 62 for all the same features and none of hte cost).

I have mine in my truck, when I mtn bike, when I run my huskies, even when I rock climb or camp/backpack. Its awesome, rugged, easy to use, simple.

Its my 1st so I'm still learning...

    pros
pretty easy to use, the menus etc are laid out very well.
good battery life, I use rechargables and they can go for about 3 days nonstop
very accurate, the reciever starfire iii iirc, can track you down to within a few feet AND it works under heavy tree cover or if you were in a deep canyon. most other receivers can't do that
trackback feature. set out on your path, mark waypoints every so often and when its time to head home and retrace your steps you turn on the trackback and it will beep as you approach your waypoint so you know to change your heading

    cons
mine has this weird habit of the compass flip flopping if you jostle the unit (say if you keep it in your pants pocket and are running or walking fast) or if you stand still too long. could be bad if you don't have a secondary way to verify your direction...
screen can be hard to read (and this may be the maps and not hte unit itself) so trying to make out the difference between an elevation contour and your track is tough.
not good for driving or searching over long distances. you have to be zoomed in on the maps really close for roads to be visible and can only see about .5 sq miles at a time. as I found out this past weekend that can be very confusing and frustrating!

its been a good investment i think. i'm still learning how to use it so i don't trust it 100% yet. and i've only used it in areas that i know well...just in case.

if you do get this one or any other unit be sure to get one with the maps included - its a much better deal that way. i wish I would have known that whne i bought mine!

how are you getting the 'none of the cost'? that thing is $550!! My 60csx and the maps were only about $280.... seems like a huge waste of money for a fancier screen and a built in camera!

So I was supposed to be camping yesterday through wed after spending a week in panama city.... yeah... only camped last night and tonight I am sitting in my king size bed in the holiday inn business suite. lol Last night I got a whopping 3 hours of sleep because it was so damn hot. My car temp said it was 98 at 1 in the morning. I ended up waking up not being able to breathe. ended up sleeping in the car with the ac on. This heat sucks big time!
